IMO, no FI option is truly "safe", safe as in just like OEM or bolt ons/tune. You can make a s/c or TT safer with good tune etc, but it's still putting stress on a motor that wasn't designed for it initially. How much "headroom" we have on this motor, ie. how much boost it can take for x amount of time, is yet tbd. That said, if you want to go FI, you should budget for a motor rebuild sometime down the line in your initial $$ calculations. May be 1 year, 2 years, 5 years later etc. Perhaps never, but better to be prepared for the worst and hope fo rthe best than go into it thinking it'll be fine and then have an unexpected $$ problem.

Ah, the valve body upgrade is an extra cost I did not calculate, that will throw in a bit extra.

Do you HAVE to have a gauge? And if certain extra items are "compulsory", why aren't they simply included with the kit?

No you really dont NEED one. But you can always get a cheapo boost gauge from pepboys/autozone.
