Basic foundations?

Hey guys well I'm new to this performance part of the car world I just have a basic question.

I want to put in a turbo, cold air intake etc.. you get the deal.

BUT I don't know if just a stock 2011 370z engine can handle just having a turbo thrown into it and all that stuff.

I'm just curious what do I need to do to the engine to have a strong foundation where I know it won't just seize and fail on me. Obviously its gonna happen at some point. But what do I need for optimal performance out of the engine before I start throwing in all the fancy stuff?

Unless your planning on having like 700hp the stock engine will hold up just fine. Try searching like he said, there is someone on the forum gunning for like 1000hp. You can probably get alot of info from that thread.

You really need to do some thread searching.

Welcome, Joel! Good to know you are new to the forum stuff, so we'll let you go easy. HA! There is a wealth of knowledge here, but please take note this car is still pretty new so the "foundation" is still not as mature as the 350Z (visit my350z, and you'll see how much it has grown).

However, there are plenty of owners with various forms of forced induction setups from mass produced kits from Stillen, GReddy, and GTM, to custom one-off setup (single turbo, rear mounted turbo, etc.).

Force feeding, whether it be SC, turbo, or even nitrous, is a gamble. Are you willing to take the risk? All I can say to you is, if my motor blows up, I'm pretty much screwed. There are guys out there who run forced induction setup and drive the car like they stole it without any problems for over a year. My driving application is pretty much the daily drive to work and home, so my car won't be seeing the track anytime soon. All I want from force feeding the car is to get back the old 300ZX feeling. It might not take me back to the 90s, though ;)
