Ain't that the truth? Slight delay in the SC. Not gonna speak for Sam, but he said a few days delay. |

It is black because it is coated to help with cooling. |
Oh I thought components were less visible than on a regular kit. Thnx Matt.

i am verrrry close to buying this kit, however i dont want to destroy the car. Isnt Sam coming with a fix or something? |

Lol, its a stealth kit, but we ALLLLLL know about it. ;)
What kind of coating is it that helps with temps? Jethot? |
i have no idea if the coating helps for the heat.
I got so that it atracts less interest from the local police |

It has to be a spray, I will try to see if I can dig up a thread where Sam talks about it. I have found old one but it is just pictures. |

Nah, if I did anything I'd get it jet hot coated...plus I don't have more than a few feet of intercooler piping so I don't care that its a little $. Just never heard of paint that helps with heat dissipation....

Coating typically helps to keep heat in or out of the pipes, but I cannot see it increasing the heat dissipation of an IC unless somehow it adds significant surface area. If anything I see it being worse because you want a very conductive material in your heat exchanger and most coatings are insulative. The other problem with a black IC is that it will start to get rock chips and look like crap after a while.
|
The thermal dissipating coating used on radiators for decades is what we apply to the intercooler. It increases the "black body" radiation profile of the heat exchanger.
For those that aren't familiar with heat transfer, there are three main types of heat transfer: convection, conduction, and radiation. The coating used increases the radiation type of heat transfer without significantly reducing the other two types. ;) |

If I were concerned about the car looking factory fresh 10 years after buying it, I'd do a few things to help, such as a mesh grill in black, and 3M clear bra on the front end of the car. But, if I'm looking for max performance and looks are secondary, I wouldn't even worry about it. :driving: |
TDC (Thermal Displacement Coating) by Sam on my Z back in the day...
