1 or 2 step colder plugs?

Anybody know where I can purchase 1 or two step colder plugs online for a '10 370z?

I've searched around and have had a hard time. Can someone please post a part number and what brand exactly their using.

Thanks in advance:tup:

Our stock plugs are Denso FXE24HR11, and they're already pretty cold. Check out this other thread too: http://www.the370z.com/engine-drivet...eat-range.html

IS there any advantage on going 1 step colder then if our SP's are already good?

G37sHKS 05-22-2011 12:52 PM

^ be safe better than sorry I guess.

Here you go: HKS USA M-Series Super Fire Racing Spark Plugs

been running these since day 1 with twin turbos.

wstar 05-22-2011 05:58 PM

The ideal you're shooting for is "just cold enough to not cause any dangerous knocking" + "hot enough to keep itself clean so it doesn't foul quickly and misfire". It's a delicate balance, and going colder when you don't need to can be detrimental in the long run if those colder plugs build up carbon fouling.

Dembflyr 05-22-2011 06:29 PM

Got mine from GTM. I'll have to check the part number when I get home later in the week.

:tup:Thanks, I appreciate it.. What heat range did you go with? Is 8 one step colder from stock or its the stock range? Is 9 two steps colder from stock?

been running these since day 1 with twin turbos.

Understood.. With any F/I setup though, I don't think the stock plugs were rated to handle the increased temps though.. I'd rather be safe than sorry plus zex recommends it :)

Dembflyr 05-23-2011 06:06 AM

I just realized that I have the invoice in my email. The part number of the plugs that I have is: 50003-M40HL

I understand the FI thing. Just on a lot of other forums/cars, people have jumped on the "1 step colder" bandwagon on lightly-bolted-on cars. Given that our plugs are already quite cold, I want people to be aware it's probably a patently bad idea unless your setup really warrants it (e.g. FI).

OP what sparks plugs did you end up going with? I am currently installing a zex kit myself and I am exploring my options for spark plugs.

How big of a shot are you using? Any issues? How long have you been running your kit?

GrooveStyle 08-14-2013 10:06 PM

Thinking about pulling the trigger on the plugs Dembflyr mentioned for the MHI TT kit I have on order (50003-M40HL). Still a good idea? Any special Gapping specs?

GrooveStyle 08-14-2013 10:09 PM

was also looking at NGK-93026

Arrvaxx 08-15-2013 07:22 AM

Is this where an exhaust temp gauge comes in handy?

It is a good idea. And I run stock GTR plugs mine. However when I pulled my stock plugs out they were the same part/model # as the GTR plugs I was about to put in...so just check first. Might have no need for them unless you are high mileage.

Chuck33079 08-15-2013 07:35 AM

Whne my turbo kit was installed, the shop recommended and installed stock GTR plugs instead of the HKS plugs. I don't remember the part number offhand, but I'm sure google can find it.

Rid3_FaM0uS 08-15-2013 07:35 AM

Groove DO NOT gap the HKS spark plugs if you purchase them; they come out of the box pre-gapped at .030 (I believe mine were) but on the side of the box it tells you not to change the gap thickness because they have some special dual tip

yeah, the risk of fouling increases

COSMO 08-15-2013 12:14 PM

I run these on my gtm Stage II TT set up (HKS 50003-M40HL)... Great Plugs and their not cheap. If your not FI just stick with the stock plugs...

Sh0velMan 08-15-2013 12:32 PM

Had good luck N/A with OEM GTR plugs.

Got them gratis from NISMO NA but I definitely recommend them as a cheaper alternative to the HKS units.

That's why the GTR plugs were installed in mine. HKS plugs are expensive.

DILAKAR8A8 is the plug to run on your boosted Z in my opinion! Hasn't let us down yet!

Thanks,

HKS plugs here. recommended by local tuner and i couldnt be happier.

elperuano 08-16-2013 10:30 AM

Same here. HKS.

elperuano 09-17-2013 09:50 AM

Just wondering if anyone has used the ngk 1 step colder plugs for their boosted ride yet? Don't think I saw this option before.

ANMVQ 09-17-2013 10:54 AM

Most of us are running the stock GTR plugs.

elperuano 09-17-2013 11:34 AM

I thought the majority were using HKS plugs. I'm most likely going to get HKS plugs again just wondering if anyone used the NGK plugs.

After my re-tune last weekend, I am having to pick up new plugs, we think one is not 100% anymore. I was told the NGK would be great and they have been using them in 350z & 370z for years with no problems. And between spending $18 per plug or $25-30 per plug and the NGK are highly rated also I will try the NGK.

My exact thoughts! Ngk is good but I never used them for VQ motors. Lemme know how it works for you.
