The top 3 gears are overdrive gears for fuel economy. It's a dog in those gears because you're at low RPM. If you want some power when you punch it, you have to downshift...

So if I'm not wrong you are saying you just push the car till 4th not after that? more asking under normal driving conditions not on track or dragstrip.

4th gear will take you faster than you ever want to go on a public road. If you're trying to accelerate hard, you should be somewhere in the 1-4 gears, yes. The rest is just there for fuel economy.

And what do you mean by rev matching a pain
No idea, but I suspect he means he's shifting between 1-2-3 in M-mode while crawling in stop and go commuter traffic. If so, just put it in D, that's the beauty of the 7AT. Rev matching is automatic, so I assume he means he doesn't like it blipping the throttle when he's shifting at a crawl?

I always leave it in D mode for my regular commute. I have been thinking about whether or not I will do the 4.08 gears, but since the car Is a DD I'm not sure. I drive mostly on the highway and I get stuck in traffic like everyday. What issues might I run into with them? I know that fuel economy is one, but is there anything else?
