Wow, you got that flat a torque curve with a twin turbo setup? Incredible.

SharpByCoop 02-08-2012 08:17 PM

Thank you. I can appreciate my tuner, John Visconti: 'V-Flash' tuning.

This power combo hasn't seen the track yet. it will.

Mike@GTM 02-13-2012 05:40 PM

Those are some nice numbers Coop! I can't wait to see what this thing does at the track.

SharpByCoop 03-06-2012 05:27 AM

Just got in from a rented track day at Atco. My previous best: 11.72 @ 122.

I ran: 11.69", 11.70", 11.80" @ 122's, and two aborted passes in the mix. These were on my 500whp street boost setting.

http://www.fototime.com/31F2D0202EE8D7B/orig.jpg
(The date is wrong, but there's no funny business going on.)

^^^ Then I made one pass on the 590whp boost setting, which netted me 11.43 @ 125. It wasn't that great either. Not my best 60', and it was breaking up. (Original build one-year-old plugs with a wide gap.)

Pretty darn good. Solid three tenths better than previous. Trans work and Torque management increase was really worthy.

I have an in-car video and John (Visconti-Flash), grabbed the outside vid with his iPad. I'll compile them when I get his file and the time.

JimmyK the owner of The Shop brought his street GTR to git-r-done. He ran 9.31@152 w/1.47" 60'. :tiphat: GO NISSAN!

We had a good outing.

Coop

edub370 03-06-2012 07:56 AM

what tires were u running to get those numbers?

KaienZ34 03-06-2012 08:29 AM

Sounds like a good day. I can't wait to see the videos.

Do you think you would get a bit better trap if you upped the PSI? I wonder what the grip trade-off would be. With 600 WHP you have a car that should be 10's capable. Congrats on your good results.

Mike@GTM 03-07-2012 05:44 PM

Wow! Nice work man!

SharpByCoop 03-08-2012 08:16 AM

Thanks, Mike. The GTM turbos and related have been working flawlessly. With the exception of the non-GTM exhaust and John's revamp of the tune it's a good barometer of your kit's potential.

I haven't rec'd the vid yet. I'm trying!

Sitting here reading your thread has me thinking...

Let's go 10s

With EcuTek soon releasing RaceRom for the entire Nissan family I don't see why we can't install 2000cc Injectors, tune this on e85 and make some REAL power! :happydance:

SharpByCoop 03-13-2012 07:50 AM

^^^ And this is a testimonial example of the mindset that prevails at TheShopCT. John and Jimmy are relentless in their quest to make further improvements. They have the skills.

I've gotten John's vid, and I'll edit mine and his together today, to give you the full experience.

John: Thanks! We aren't done. Yet. :tiphat:

I finally made time to compile both the vids of this run.

We're going by the premise "If you've got it, flaunt it!" hence the title of the vid.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cQGDTobdks
If vid doesn't load go to this link: Quickest Infiniti G37 @ Drag Strip ? 11.43et @ 125mph ?*TheShopCT - YouTube

There still more to be had. We've got our thinking caps on and wringing our hands in anticipation of more.

Thanks for watching. :) (It's uploaded to 720hd. Open it up!)

Turbos sound sweet from outside! Can you hear them in the cabin at all? Doesn't sound like it from the video.

I appreciate it.

Nice video!

In for 10's.

SharpByCoop 08-14-2012 11:07 AM

Been a while since I've updated this thread. My thread over on myG37.com has been ongoing....

Short version: Bent rods and broke a ring land in above video. If the car is breaking up (listening from outside) that ain't good. Any number of things can produce this, none of them welcome.

Removed engine, new 9:1 Wiseco pistons, new A1 rods, Full ARP studs and hardware, completely balanced lower end, reseated valves and seats, new cam controllers (ouch!), all assembled and back together. This happened from March-June.

Car has 900 miles on it and is running sweet. Has not had a final tune to the new combo. In conversation with Sam at GTM and with Jimmy, we determined that the fuel needs were the next progression to ensure this won't implode.

Ordered and rec'd a larger capacity Aeromotive pump, 750cc injectors, and the fuel rail return system. All from GTM.

Below is where I'm at as I write:

The car is now at The Shop, and here's what's getting done:

The fuel pump pod has the new pump installed, along with the new AN fittings and lines. This is not a simple bolt-in. Some parts need to be modified. There is no one more careful than Hector for this kind of work. That's the old pump sitting alone.

http://www.fototime.com/CC5762CC30FFC17/orig.jpg

Under the hood is the ongoing installation of the machined fuel rails and return lines. Witness how he carefully masked off the intake, and didn't simply stuff rags into it. He's good.
http://www.fototime.com/5B86EE94930F747/orig.jpg

Props to GTM for the solid parts and for getting back to Jimmy and Hector with some install directions.

One of two garage bays where The Shop does the work. Jimmy's 1200whp GTR is up on the right. Before the end of the Fall he is committed to an eight-second timecard.

http://www.fototime.com/16A596BD032E28A/orig.jpg

All the cars they work on are performance cars. Major props.

I'm going on vacation this thursday for nine days. They will work on it without my badgering in the meanwhile. LOL!

I've talked to the new tuner (Mike Botti) at length: Work on the low speed tune for utmost day-to-day response and driveability. Then, 550whp redline tune on local pump 93. That's PLENTY for day to day driving and fun. 650whp tune/boost on RACE FUEL for the track day. Figure out how to get there and replicate this. I'll want to go in Sept, when the temps cool a bit.

I don't forecast tens at all. The torque converter will limit a hard launch. I DO suspect an 11.3 or 11.2 is attainable and sustainable.

Time will tell. That said, this is my street car, and a reliable 550whp street ride has unmistakeable authority.

Coop

KaienZ34 08-14-2012 08:27 PM

Sucks this happened, but now it'll be better than ever.

SharpByCoop 12-16-2012 08:25 PM

Been a long time since I've updated THIS thread. I've been busy on MyG37.com, and view here often but haven't drawn this thread back to the top.

This following vid deserves your attention. This was this past week. The car has been running strong, since we built the lower end and added more boost (17lbs). Pump 93 oct.

Wishing the car was lighter and didn't have a 45lb driveshaft. That, and my next goal will be installing 4.08 gears to use all FOUR gears instead of three and a half.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_ptJ3i04WI

Tens next season. 14 hundredths away. We can smell it. :)

http://www.fototime.com/15DAACF073CCE36/medium800.jpg

BTW: I packed the family in it and we drove quietly to our church this morning. That's right. It's a total OEM driver. LOL!

Coop

Nixlimited 12-16-2012 09:07 PM

Congratulations. Why is it so hard to get these cars in the 10s? You certainly have the power to get it done. I assume you are running drag radials?

SharpByCoop 12-18-2012 12:05 PM

I was asked about the brake light switch thing I point out in the captions on my vid.

I learned that the ECU will shut down the throttle if you try to apply throttle and brake at the same time. And it does.

The workaround is simple:
1. There is a two-wire brake light switch under the dash on the brake pedal.

2. Remove the clip with the two wires, splice into ONE of them going into an ON/OFF two-pole switch and exiting back to the cut lead.

My switch is in a little plastic bracket thing right over my right foot. (Radio Shack). The wires run about 12" to the switch and back. I used butt connectors. No amps at all.

You NEED to have it on to start the car, and to get it out of Park. (Not sure of what it does for a standard gearbox).

Once it's in gear, flip it OFF, and then you can power brake for the burnout and for the line.

Your HAVE to remember to turn it back on. Safety issue, and you won't be able to restart or get it out of 'park'.

This was a Public Service announcement. :)

Coop

Nixlimited 12-18-2012 12:23 PM

I learned that the hard way too. I kept trying to do a burnout at the dragstrip last time and was so irritated that I couldn't get it right. Low and behold, it was not me!

Switch is a great idea. I know you can also pull a fuse, but this sounds easier. Because I am 6MT, I do not think I would have the getting out of Park issue.

Z eliminator 12-18-2012 01:24 PM

I just pull the fuse, when i go to the track

SharpByCoop 12-18-2012 09:12 PM

^^^ By doing this, you can still restart and shift your auto? If so, that's a new one on me. Never even tried.

Coop

Z eliminator 12-18-2012 09:35 PM

yes, everything works . except your brake lights, car will not bog,

Z

Navyboy916 12-18-2012 10:08 PM

Dumb question what fuse do u pull out?

NitrousZ34 12-19-2012 02:29 AM

I had a switch that was connected to my brake lights and would flip it on whenever i wanted to do a burn out. This was also on my old 350z and it was a 6MT. Works perfect. Or, like you said you can just pull the switch

Legz 12-19-2012 09:16 AM

DIY!!!! for noobies like me who doesn't know what you guys are talking abt :p

Yeah, which fuse is it? I thought it was the ABS fuse, but I haven't done it yet...

Z eliminator 12-20-2012 08:54 AM

10 amp fuse. You will know when you got the right fuse as your brake lights will not work.
