The All New HKS Turbo Timer

HKS USA, Inc., celebrating its 35th year as the premier manufacturer and supplier of automotive performance systems and parts, is proud to announce the ninth generation of the HKS Turbo Timer available for sale on September 10th, 2008.

In 1982 HKS introduced the world’s first Turbo Timer to assist in cooling down the turbocharger to prevent oil coking in the center bearing cartridge assembly. Oil "coking" occurs when a turbocharger is not properly cooled down and the oil that normally lubricates the center cartridge heats up and forms solidified oil deposits. A turbo timer allows an engine to idle for a preset amount of time after the ignition key has been turned to the off position and removed. By allowing a turbocharged engine to idle, oil continues to pass through the turbo until it has cooled down to the point where oil "coking" will not occur. Re-designed for 2008, the all new Turbo Timer Type-0 and Type-1 feature a new, slim low profile design with a separate LCD display and control unit following the same design concepts as the current HKS EVC and A/F Knock Amp.
The Turbo Timer Type-0 features a red LCD backlit display for easy visibility, 2 timer modes, and a battery voltage meter with a peak value indication and warning function.

The Turbo Timer Type-1 features a light blue LCD backlit display and has the same basic timing and voltage features as the Type-0 plus several monitoring and measurement functions. The Turbo Timer Type-1 features an Auto mode for the timer function allowing the Turbo Timer to automatically calculate optimum idling time according to the most recent driving pattern. Vehicle speed and RPM can be displayed on the Type-1's LCD monitor and a speed warning level can be set. A two-stage RPM warning can also be set and used as a shift indicator. When a warning level is reached the Type-1's LCD monitor will blink and an audible beep will sound. The HKS Turbo Timer Type-1 also features various measurement functions including 1/4 mile timer, 0-60 timer and a stopwatch function that can be used for lap timing. The Turbo-Timer Type-1 can read in either MPH/SAE or KPH/Metric.

The new HKS Turbo Timers are compatible with all HKS Turbo Timer harnesses to make for an easy installation.

For the price, I think it does a pretty da*n good job. Good info there, Mike!

abgyak 03-13-2010 10:51 PM

Has anyone installed this on a 370Z? I Need to instal a turbo timer ... Can anyone suggest any that suits the 370z??

FuszNissan 03-14-2010 07:22 AM

Nice! Good price too.

JB-370z 03-14-2010 10:25 AM

PM Price,
I might go ahead and pick one of these up if the price is right.

abgyak 03-14-2010 11:24 AM

will this work on the 370Z? & can it affect in anyway the immobiliser of the car? or the other way round?

JB-370z 03-14-2010 11:40 AM

Good question? This might be a problem!

bullitt5897 03-17-2010 09:03 AM

I already have the type-1

JB-370z 03-17-2010 09:51 AM

Does it work right with our alarm and what not?
If so I would like to place and order. Need to get ready as much as possible for turbo.

Can't wait 30 seconds to shut the car off :stirthepot:

abgyak 03-17-2010 07:59 PM

So you can lock your car even when the engine is still switched on?

If you can afford the tt price tag you can afford the 100-200 on t-timer so our lazy @ss does not have to wait 30sec or more for cool down. :icon23:

bullitt5897 03-18-2010 10:18 AM

ohhh you so would say that lou! so while your sitting in the red dragon waiting for it to cool down... I am out mackin with tha ladies!!!! :stirthepot:

Revzone 03-21-2010 07:56 PM

Hi,

Is it possible to install the HKS turbo timer into 370Z and not affect the keyless entry and engine start?

Has anyone done it before?

Please help

Thanks

Justin

bullitt5897 03-23-2010 09:07 AM

I am going to be the first I think... My car is at forged performance at the moment and my turbo timer is at JPM Coachworks interior shop getting imbedded in the head liner along with my boost controller and PLX Gauge...

JB-370z 03-23-2010 11:32 AM

bullitt what is your secondary car you drive? So the HKS t-timer works with the 370z? I want to see pics as soon as JPM is done with it. Alot of people do not go the xtra step to get it custom mounted Im glad to see you did.

bullitt5897 03-23-2010 12:30 PM

I borrow family members cars hahahaha... Seriously, I took my street bikes and turned them into a race bikes so this is my daily :). I am driving a '03 lexus ls430 for the time being.

JB-370z 03-27-2010 12:21 PM

So do we have some pictures of the install yet bullitt??

1slow370 03-27-2010 07:45 PM

1. bullit you need to go out and buy a geo metro or something that you can't get parts for

2. Since turbo timers are made to let the car run to cool the turbo, WTF hasn't anyone just come up with one that uses a temp sensor attached to the turbo housing to tell it when it's cool enough to shut off instead of guessing at it and having to come up with fancy driving behavior control logic?

Edit: might want to just look into a 2007 and newer dodge chasis cab cummins 6.7l turbo diesel they come with a factory turbo timer that will shut the truck off once a user specified EGT is reached so your car will stay on until the turbo is cool if you were beating on it but if you just went to the store it will shut off right away as there is no need to cool down a cool turbo and waste all that gas. we just need to steal the box and pyrometer outta the rams.

JB-370z 03-29-2010 08:39 PM

Well the main point is to let the turbo fully down spool to get all the hot gas out so there is no traped hot air chillen, in some cases it can start to crack parts.

1slow370 03-30-2010 03:25 AM

just saying i would rather have an egt based turbo cool down system than a "guess how long it will take and waste a sheet ton of gas" timer.
