Illegal to TT in CA

Can someone clear the air for me on this issue. I heard Ca residents can not TT their cars. It will not be smog legal or something. But we can SC without any issues. True not true

Probably should try the F.I. section

Any type of forced induction is illegal in California, unless the kit has been submitted, tested and approved by CARB (which is a rigorous process).

Anything modifying or altering smog equipment on vehicles requires CARB approval. This also includes intake systems, headers, cats, etc. Anything beyond the catalytic converter (cat-back exhaust) is not subject to CARB approval, and is fine to install.

The STILLEN Supercharger has been submitted for CARB-approval, is going well, and we should have more information soon.

But until that happens, the STILLEN kit is also not CARB approved and not yet legal for installation in California.

Not true - depends on the SC and if it is CARB ok - Pretty much - anything w/ a CARB sticker you can throw on your car.... So if greddy came out w/ a CARB approved kit which happens to be a TT - then you can put that on your car... same goes w/ intake / exhaust / headers etc etc etc

depends on your additude and the officer's mood. He can cite you for LEGAL exhaust or intake with a carb sitcker on it. You additude when pulled over has the 99% of if you will get cited for those things or not unless you get pulled over for street racing.

And what happens when you "have to get a smog test", what then?

another reason not to have a fake blow off valve in california.

There are things beyond the smog check that can get you too. There have been instances where the police have come in on smaller "parking lot" type meets and opened hoods, and at that point you've got real issues. Referee's getting involved, having to uninstall kits..

Officers also receive training to identify non-approved aftermarket parts, and while it might be difficult to notice headers, a turbo or SC kit will be pretty easy to spot.

Just a giant pain and a worry for a daily driver..

Thank you Josh for your input. I will stay away from TT or any SC that is not carb legal. Due to the fact I know how cash strapped this state is right now and dont need the head ache nor the outrageous fine. Ill just wait for yours to pass carb status and throw that puppy on!

Shouldn't be too long! We are also close to releasing the optional engine warranty, for the guys looking for additional security on the engine side.

I got a 187 in Glendale, cops are all over it...we're good to roll, I repeat, we're good to roll!!

Don't we have 5 years before we have to smog our cars? Until then what does it matter about smog? And when that time comes we will probably be wanting whatever new Z is coming out then anyhow. ;)
