this is for sale in my area, is it worth the trouble?
 

a year or 2 ago i saw this getting built at a local tuning shop in my area the money put into it was insane then as soon as it was built it was sold, now not long after the new buyer is selling it also but now its not making boost because it goes into limp mode.

I called the shop who built it and they said it was low oil pressure in one of the heads and cant be driven until that head comes off and whatever is wrong fixed, supposedly there is a mesh filter in the heads.

its had $80,000 spent on mods is it worth fixing or buying for parts as i already have a 370z, i was going to offer $20,000 as its for sale again for $30,000

since you reached out to the shop who worked on it - have you asked them a 'rough ball park' as to what it would cost to get it back up and running? Full disclosure - not so handy with a wrench - but - is this the type of issue that could lead to 'going down the rabbit hole' chasing other issues that might pop up after this initial issue is fixed or.....once this is fixed - you are pretty certain that it will be running like it should etc.
I've always wondered what it would be like to get someone else's build especially if they are adding parts etc that I would do anyways - allows for one to save money on mods and it already being installed etc - yet....as they say you might be inheriting someone else's problems. Goodluck regardless

Pass, never heard of an issue with a mesh filter in one head. Sounds like someone is feeding you a line of chit.

I’ve torn up some stuff, and the head mesh filters have been clean both times suprisingly.


If you are a pro mechanic then go for it. If not pass, you spend a fortune paying others to iron it out.

There have been a few threads on the issue. It effects the VVT most of the time. To fix it. The heads have to come off.

you were bang on, it is a problem with the vvt this is a email i got from the builders shop.

Thanks for the enquiry mate.

This is a great car and has had a huge amount of time and money spent on it however there is an issue with the engine that does need immediate attention.

There is a problem with the variable valve timing on the drivers side which throws an engine code up whilst driving and we have narrowed it down to an oil pressure/feed problem in the cylinder head. We have managed to test the pressure at the block and the heads and found a variance.

We believe there may be an internal leak or a blockage (these engines have small filters that sit in the heads) that may be the cause but the current owner did not want to spend the money to remove the engine from the car and take off the cylinder heads to inspect/carry out repairs.

Please be aware that if you buy this car you'd be needing to sort this issue out ASAP.

It looks like the shop told you are up against for the known problem. Once that's fixed get ready to chase other build gremlins. As stated above, be prepared to go down rabbit holes.

yeah ill give it a miss, if bits of something has gone through the oil enough to block the filter in the head its probably damaged the bearings and scored the bore and probably has bits stuck in the oil cooler and god knows what yeah that can be somebody else drama
