Turbo Timing on WOT
 
Just wanted to see others inputs on their timing during WOT or pulls.

Since im running a Boosted Performance Mid Mount on E85 14 psi, im sitting around 17 Degrees of timing all the way 4k-7800RPM. Im also on wastegates.

Any suggestions of opinions of it being a little too aggressive or conservative.

You can't evaluate timing without checking engine load / AFR - are you holding 14 psi consistently? Generally speaking, timing should be advanced as engine speed increases, unless there are other considerations such as trying to keep torque artificially low. You would typically expect to see less timing at low rpm on a turbo setup to keep torque low and more timing at high rpm as torque begins to drop off. Likewise if engine load is lower before the turbo is making maximum boost, adding timing can help increase torque to make up for the lack of boost.

With E85, 17 degrees at redline isn't dangerous but 17 degrees at 4k rpm w/ 14 PSI of boost is definitely going to shoot a rod sooner or later.

I've seen one particular tuner that runs the same timing across all RPMS before, and he's well known for blowning engines here on the forum.

Observe the knock strength and increase timing accordingly.

Really hope that’s not my tuner.

I’m running on all wastegate so it builds pretty quick and it’s consistent 14 all the way to red line.

I’m looking at my logs right now


At 3800 RPMS - 27 degrees
4000 - 25 degrees
4500 - 20 degrees
4700-5000 - 18 degrees
5100-7500 - 17 degrees

Zero knock all the way so it may seem like my knock sensors might be turned off.


Think I can shoot you a DM for some help?

For the AFRs I understand since my AFR gauge is mounted after my mid mount. The tuners generally tune accurately off the factory widebands on the vehicle rather than the after market gauge. It builds quickly but holds 14 psi the entire way.

I had a instance where I was placed at 11 degrees of timing and maxed out at 14 degrees by redline but a different tuner. Which would probably be safer snd conservative I assume?

Generally the tuner should be tuning off the aftermarket gauge.

Sure, shoot over a DM. does it have full boost at 4500? If so, ouch.

Oh thank god no I’m not tuned by him, I’ve seen really good number from him but I’ve also seen really negative reviews linking to those numbers relating to drivability and reliability.
