Switchback single turbo build

Several weeks ago, I dropped of my 2012 black cherry automatic 370z with 85k miles at Switchback Racing & Vanquish Tuning's joint shop in Oldsmar, FL. I wanted some boost juice.

Hendrik Kuyt of Switchback Racing hit me up with a deal I couldn't refuse on a top mounted precision 6266. Ok plz ty.

Erik Cruz of Vanquish Tuning put it on the dyno and it made 222rwhp - heartbreaker, right? It's a Mustang dyno, and he says it reads low even for a Mustang. The car was also throwing MAF codes and had a bad o2 sensor, and the dirty Typhoon intakes weren't helping. Her feet are also a little heavier than they were stock, and it was a hot, humid summer day in Florida. Then Hendo the Mad Scientist got to work with his tig welder. I ended up having him do some other work as well - a custom 3.5" straight pipe, coilovers, oil catch can, transmission cooler, and oil cooler.

Here is a link to the album with pictures of his top-notch fab work throughout the process:

This is the finished product:

The car is currently being tuned by Erik Cruz @ Vanquish Tuning via EcuTek. He will be programming a launch control into the tune somehow, black magic if you ask me. I will update this post with the dyno results, as well as a couple of before and after pictures and videos in a few days. I will be taking the car to Fl2k18 this year in Bradenton and hope to get a ton of footage of this animal in action. The transmission is still stock (aside from the transmission cooler), so we are going to aim for a soft cap on wtq of around 400-420 and see how things go. I do have plans on having the transmission built next summer.

Current mod list:
Precision 6266
Tial BoV and WG
Stillen transmission cooler
Z1 oil cooler
Tein street basis coilovers
Megan rear sway bar
Custom Switchback 3.5" single exhaust
Custom Switchback oil catch can
EcuTek
Konig Ampliform 19x9.5/10.5 with 265s in the front and 285s in the rear

Next on the list will be a Switchback fuel return system, then I forfeit my other testicle to build the 7at.

Any reason you went with that guy as opposed to the Soho Single kit (not to take anything away from him as I've never heard of his work)? Also, depending on which offsets you went with, I'd recommend a 305/30 for the rear. A 285/30 will look tiny compared to the front 265/35.

I live closer to Switchback's shop. They're cutting me a really good deal for the work, and Hendrik has dozens of top mounts on the road, they've just been fabricated for other shops and don't have his name all over them. I've seen his setup and know it's potential and reliability exceed expectations.

I wanted to keep the tire stagger at or below a difference of 20 to combat the understeer the car indulges in during sharp turns at certain speeds. I'll adjust the offset once we see what they really look like tomorrow, but there are several people running a comperable tire setup on the wheels fittment thread, no?

Welcome to the VQ boosted club. Nothing compares to a boosted VQ!

You are going to want/need more than 285 in the rear. The power comes on like a freight train. Also it’s going to be difficult to keep your torque under 400wtq. That was my goal and best I could do was 440wtq. You just can’t pull enough timing.

Even with 305 rears you can easily shred them in first and second gear. Next set I'm going with 335 to try and get more traction. You will need all of the rubber you can get to get it to hookup.

+1 for hendo at switch back. Great guy.. ...the kit will perform great. Here are some links of another Z (Nathan's car) on the dyno and walk around. There has been upgrades to the kit since.

Overhauled the original post to streamline it a bit and updated. She's done and ready to be tuned. Final results coming within the week.

Update on build?

I’m very curious about this kit, how did the build end up doing?

Very well, it was just limited by the stock 7at. You'd have to be more specific. I had a blast with it. Selling it now, though, growing family and I'm tired of paying insurance on two cars for just me. Need to consolidate my toy and my DD into a fun sedan that takes car seats.
