SOHO Motorsports Stage One VHR Top Mount Kit

With the success that we have had with our single turbo kit for the VQ35DE, it was only a matter of time before we developed a single turbo kit for the VHR. We are proud to announce our newest single turbo kit for the VHR, which is the first reverse rotation top mount kit for this platform. The reverse rotation has allowed us to route the cold side and hot side piping in a manner that is favorable to the limited space in the VHR engine bay.

https://i.imgur.com/rYoyeAj.jpg?1

Many of you may already know that this past weekend at Zdayz we premiered our stage one top mount single turbo kit for the VHR. We are planning to have two stages where the stage one will be more for the enthusiast that is looking for 450 to 500 wheel horsepower and the stage two will be for the enthusiast looking for 550 wheel and up!

Utilizing components from some of the best companies in the industry such as Garret, Turbosmart, Injector Dynamics, Aeromotive, K&N, and Vibrant we have been able to create a stage one kit that is perfect for the enthusiast. The entirety of the SOHO Motorsports single turbo kit piping is made from T304 stainless steel, unlike other kits in the market that use stainless steel and aluminum. Stainless is used, rather then the industry standard of aluminum for the cold side piping because stainless is almost a tenth of the heat transfer coefficient of aluminum, which means that it does not absorb heat as quickly as aluminum. Along with the reduced coefficient of heat transfer, stainless steel is a more durable material then aluminum and does not have a very significant difference in weight savings.
The hot side piping mimics our design of the VQ35DE kit as one side of the exhaust manifold will meet with the other side via a custom merge collector that will direct both exhaust manifold paths into the bottom of the turbine housing. The Garret GTX3576R turbo has been chosen for the stage one package along with a 1.01 A/R exhaust side housing allowing for great spool time and continuous top end power.

https://i.imgur.com/Fl3C90Q.jpg?3

As the exhaust gases exit the engine and travel thru the 2.50″ diameter stainless steel piping, they will meet the turbosmart wastegate, which will help control the amount of boost that is made via a set wastegate spring of 7 psi. We have incorporated a recirculation wastegate tube into the exhaust to alleviate noise when the wastegate will open as many people are not a fan of the open wastegate sound.

https://i.imgur.com/cCTjbhb.jpg?1

When it came time to determine a way to incorporate a three inch downpipe, our fabrication department found that reversing the bolt on the passenger side subframe would allow for a 3″ downpipe to fit. With the length that the downpipe would need to be, it would have to be a two piece component, and we found that incorporating a slip joint would allow for the downpipe to become two pieces and allow for an easier installation.

https://i.imgur.com/0uw7cCu.jpg?1

Now it was time to create the cold side of the turbo kit, which would require some ingenuity as the space that we have was very limited and we did not want to have excess piping in the engine bay. The compressor outlet travels alongside the passenger frame horn and wraps around the radiator support into the top of the intercooler, where a gradual increase in overall diameter is noticed at the intercooler. A 2.5″ to 3.0″ coupler is used to allow as much air as possible into the intercooler as the air will then travel downwards and out in their own separate paths towards the dual throttle bodies. The stock power steering reservoir has been relocated to the drivers side engine bay since the turbo is now in its original location.

Over the past few months, we have been testing a concept that has provided an increase in power with this platform, which can be seen in the picture above. You will see that we have increased the overall diameter of the intake piping going to the throttle body from 2.50″ to 2.75″ to allow for the velocity of air to increase going into the throttle body via a pressure differential.
The stage one kit is for the enthusiast that would like to utilize the stock non return fuel system and not shoot for big power, as the stage two that will follow this stage will be for the enthusiast that is looking for bigger power on the stock engine along with a few more modifications. At 8 psi, we were able to achieve

How difficult is the installation of this kit? Will the motor have to be moved, is this possible for someone to do this at home?

Very interested

That’s amazing. Also how do y’all work out the downpipe into which ever exhaust we are running?

Ilias 05-30-2018 07:45 AM

That is amazing, finally! Will the shipping be restricted only inside the US?

Jordan12berg 05-30-2018 08:27 AM

Will there be an option to have an open dump instead of back into the exhaust?

**Update**

As we continue to finalize the stage two kit that we will be offering, I wanted to update you guys with some good news. The stage one turbo kit will now come with a GTX3582R reverse rotation turbo instead of the GTX3576R reverse rotation turbo AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE!

After further research we determined that a slightly larger compressor wheel would provide a decent gain in power in the higher rpms of the 3.7 engine.

As you can see in the picture below, at the same boost level, we picked up 44 rwhp and 33 ft-lbs of torque at the same boost level of around 8-9 psi!

https://i.imgur.com/LK8gGJC.png

With the car still on the dyno, we did an 11-12 psi pull on pump gas and we netted the following numbers:

https://i.imgur.com/4XImuw6.png

All the dyno runs were done in fourth gear, so fifth gear pulls would net more :)

Stay tuned for numbers from the stage 2 kit coming soon with a slightly larger turbo :)

So excited for this kit. For the price you ready can't beat it.

What do you think a ballpark price would be for installation @ SOHO for a Stage 1 kit?

I had the pleasure of seeing this kit in person at Zdayz, and meeting some of the guys from Soho (my wife and I were the ones discussing what it would take to put this on a G37x sedan and getting around the transfer case). Build looks awesome in person, and the guys from Soho couldn't be nicer! The ability to retain stock headers is a huge point in its favor!

*STAGE TWO COMPLETE*

We have officially completed the stage two single turbo kit, which includes the following changes:

-Garret GTW38 Turbo w/ 1.08 Housing
-New up-pipe design
-New downpipe design
-Larger intake filter

https://i.imgur.com/UQwkSa6.jpg?1

With the temperature rising in the south and summer arriving, we wanted to wait for a day where it would not be 90+ degrees and that day was today. Even though the humidity was high at around 60% we were still about to lay down some respectable numbers!

https://i.imgur.com/mXnyod6.jpg?1

At 8.5 psi we made 500 rwhp and 420 ft-lbs of torque in fourth gear with pump gas.

https://i.imgur.com/LCyMivq.png

At 12.5 psi we made 570 rwhp and 498 ft-lbs of torque in fourth gear with pump gas!

https://i.imgur.com/4wVj6va.png

We will be providing pricing and order details tomorrow for anybody that would like to place an order for this kit or ask any additional questions.

Stage 2 Update (Updated)

Update on the stage 2 turbo kit, we recently just got back from driving both the stage 1 G37 kit and the stage 2 370Z kit to and from Zcon. The total trip was around 950 miles and both cars did great :happydance:

We ran into a small issue with the stage 2 car on the way down to Zcon, as we were having difficulty getting into gear and the car would also pop out of gear in fifth and sixth gear while cruising. So we had the vehicle towed back to the shop and removed the transmission to find that the transmission had failed.

We knew we had to get both cars down to Zcon / ZNationals so we swapped the transmission and made it down late Wednesday night.

https://i.imgur.com/q434PU1.jpg?1

Once we got back we decided to put the stage 2 car back on the dyno as we were not sure if this transmission issue could have been affecting the numbers we were seeing with the stage 2 kit initially.

The weather was slightly cooler which will contribute to some of the gains but we saw upwards of 38 rwhp compared to the initial stage 2 dyno testing on wastegate still utilizing 93 octane fuel.

https://i.imgur.com/Ic7bYTF.png?3

At 11.3 registered on the turbosmart eboost we received the following numbers:

What would the install cost for a 2008 G37S Coupe 6mt? Assuming I choose stage 1 and get a new clutch/flywheel (already have CMAK).

As far as exhaust, I know my ART pipes would no longer be used but could any of my Motordyne catback be used? I'd like to stay dual.

The kit will stop where the stock y-pipe location ends...The AAM R-Line will be able to work due to the fact that it is a dual exhaust system. If the ISR single will bolt to the factory y location, then it will work :)

We also offer a single exit as well :hello:

Hey guys!

Sorry for the delayed response, we are starting to get a few more of these kits out

Many of you may have seen the recent Z1 post of Sams car making incredible numbers on pump gas

*I would not recommend running it at 15 psi on pump gas, as these numbers were put down to show what the kit is capable of*

- red was a fifth gear pull and jon let out due to the torque
- green was a fourth gear pull

https://sohomotorsports.com/wp-conte...1296087575.jpg

I will keep updated the thread as more and more results come in :)
