stillen supercharger belt tensioner
Hi guys im trying to remove the tension from the small belt on the rear of the charger to take the belt off but seem to be getting nowhere
im winding the adjuster and nothings happening am i missing somthing ? tia |
Loosen the nut in the puller first

Yo dudes, just wanted to see if there was anyone out there that's had personal experience with replacing the small supercharger belt. I was driving to work yesterday when it abruptly broke. Turns out it was all cracked, likely from the colder weather etc. Ordered a new belt from Stillen but they weren't the best help giving advice on how to deal with this..
I understand that you have to release tension from the lower idler pulley via the bolt that faces downward. Only there appears to be no way to access it aside from underneath and likely having to remove other stuff. For instance there's a hose and electrical line right next to it that have next to no slack. It also looks like getting a socket might not work because there's a piece of a metal tab or something right under it as well.. I'd have an easier time describing this if I could see a damn thing down there it's so crowded and at the worst angle to get light on it. It's like the person who designed it was super into riddles or some ****. Why the f---k can't it be set up in such a manner where it can be easily accessed from above?? Anyways, any advice would be greatly appreciated! |

Are you guys using a socket wrench?? Again, not sure if I could even get one on there with that metal tab in the way. I might be able to get a box wrench on it but there's no room to actually twist it or even get a decent grip on a handle. Did you guys remove any hoses etc?

Part of me wants to rip the whole thing out and reengineer it to make it possible to spin it without wanting to slit my wrists just looking at it.. |
I mean, if that whole mechanism was angled like 10 more degrees no one would have to sit here listening to me b-tch about it..

I replaced my SC belt a couple weeks ago. I used a crow's foot socket and a 3/8" extension to get it down there from the top. As mentioned, make sure you loosen the pulley bolt before loosening the tensioner. It's probably easiest to cut the old belt off. Then remove the idler pulley, and loosen the tensioner bolt by hand. it moves a lot faster that way. Then get the new belt on the pulleys, and fit the idler back on. Then start tightening the tensioner 1/3 turn at a time. Once the idler is back on and the tension is pretty good, tighten up the pulley and double check the tension and you're done! It's a mega pain in the ***, but doable. Good luck!

Thanks man, a co worker mentioned using a crow's foot socket as well. I ended up getting at it from underneath with a long socket wrench extension which was WAY easier for me than screwing around from up top..
