370z aam tt long distance driving
Hello I am new to the turbo scene. I am in the process of buying a 370z aam tt at a Colorado dealership, previously owned by Mogoul. I am flying out there tomorrow. I thought I would have enough money to have the car delivered, but the taxes ate all that up. Anywho, is it safe to drive the car from CO to PHX? It's about 800 miles 12 hr drive. The temps should be fine driving that long right?
|
Temps should be fine. The only concern I would have is fuel. What octane was it tuned on, and what is available along the way and where you live?
|
I don't even know. I would assume reg gas.
This is from Mogoul's post in what the car has o AAM Competition 370Z Twin Turbo Full System o AAM 3" Downpipe leading into Meisterschaft CBE o AAM Competition 2.5" to 3" Y-pipe o AAM Competition 370Z R-Line Oil Cooling System o Stage 3 Ceramic Competition Clutch o Heavy Duty Slave Cylinder w/ Lines o Tanabe Revel VLS 52mm 0-150psi Digital, LED Oil Pressure Gauge o Tanabe Revel VLS 52mm 10.0:1-20.0:1 AFR Digital LED Wideband Air/Fuel Ration Gauge o Tanabe Revel VLS Boost Gauge, 52mm o ECUtek Tuning Package w/Advanced Boost Control and Advanced Traction Control o Tuned at AAM o 2x Maps First at 6lbs Boost 2nd at 8lbs Boost o ECUtek Dongle and Cable o CSF Radiator o ZSpeed 370Z V2 Alumninum Under Shroud Engine Splash Shield o Swift Lowering Springs o Z1 Hood Struts o WeatherTech Mats o Pioneer AVH-X4600BT DVD Player |
Regular? Oh hell no. Before that thing moves ten feet, you need to see if it's tuned on 91 or 93.
|
my bad, when i mean reg gas, I mean pump gas not E85. I believe a stock Z is premium gas. Calling them right now.
|
Premium, yes. But 91 or 93 might not be something the dealer knows. Also, if they've been letting people test drive it on the wrong octane, you're going to have a bad time. You need an oil analysis and compression test asap, and set aside money for a retune with your elevation and fuel.
|
Man. I just called them, they have no clue. They said you should be fine anything above 87. Then the guy said I would put 91 or 93 if it was mine.
I have a bad feeling already. |
That's really sketchy. IMO id never buy an already TT 370z, if you are going to do it buy a N/A 370z and then boost it yourself so you know what the car has been through and what it can handle. Think about it you might have to put more money into the already twin turboed 370z because so many things can go wrong with it. How many miles/Kms has it been boosted on? and how many miles/kms are on the actual engine

And hope that none of the lot monkeys joyrode the car on the wrong gas - hence the immediate need for a compression test and oil analysis. |

From now on, you need to keep $10k in your bank account at all times if you need a new motor. That's just life with aftermarket forced induction, especially someone else's project.

You will probably be fine. Just take it easy on the way back, and have your tuner do a compression test and retune for your area. If this is supposed to be a daily driver, make sure the tune is conservative. Send an oil sample to Blackstone Labs to see if there's too much metal in the oil.

That's when your shortblock fund comes into play.

just put the 93 in it ,and listen to the motor as you speed up for any pinging, if you dont hear then I would think it is good 8-)
|
Did you get the car yet?
|
Do you know who the previous owner is? If AAM did the install, they might be able to tell you how they tuned it (if they remember).
|
99% of dealerships make their employees pump 87 in all vehicles, even the ones that say premium required. If they find out they pumped anything higher they get reprimanded. That car has been run on tanks of 87, trust me
|
also it is illegal for the dealer to be selling a modified vehicle such as this, if you bye it just know you are on your own once you sign for it and unless you are familiar with turbo vehicles it will be a money pit, the professional install is irrelevant, things will break and you will pay alot for someone to troubleshoot and repare unless you know how to do it yourself

Hi guys it has been almost two years since I backed out on that deal. I just had a really bad feeling about the car so I canceled everything. I was bummed out. I didnt want to reply back til I bought a car. I just bought my dream car last week. I was going to buy a new nismo Z, but I really wanted a car that was already turboed and ready to go. So I bought Godzilla. Bought it from a dealer. It's a 14 gray, black edition. Low miles, stock. It was at my local Nissan dealership. It checked off everything on my list, color, trim, and year. I jumped it on, didn't have to travel. I am now signed up on the gtrlife forum (wazzup_marc182) is my ID. If anyone resides in the Phoenix metro area, hit me up. Still a Z fan. I will post some pics of the car.

congrats on tyour purchase...
LMAO on some of these posts... look, it simple - find out who tuned it, ask the tuner how the car is spec'ed and how to approach a long distance trip. on the highway you are mostly driving in vacuum, and the engine is not trying too hard. you just need to be light on the pedal till you get home, schedule a local tuner appointment and tune the car locally wherever you end up. 370z will never be tuned below premium, so thats just nonsense. if the car comes with an afr gauge (which it should being boosted), just monitor it and make sure you are as close to 14.7 as possible.. you wont kill the car running it cross country (driving it like a normal human) but you can fk it royally driving like you stole it all the way there. |
