^ LH FTW!!!

Ok, Lou, pretty soon we're going to have to start a new thread for you! This one is getting pretty big, and I want you to have a seperate thread for your car. Installing the gauges was an incredibly intricate process, and a lot more in depth than we originally anticipated. Nearly the entire dash had to come out for the gauges to go in the factory gauge holders, but the end result is as clean as OEM!! Dash is almost completely back in now, and I should have some photos for you of the gauges lit up here shortly. In the meantime, check these out!

I know what you're thinking; "Is it just me, or do the needles in the gauges look off centre?" This is true! They all are slightly off, but rest assured though, they are all clocked correctly. The needles are still "limp", because they have never had any power run through them. Once they are fully wired and powered on for the first time, they will all come to rest at a perfect 90° angle.

And here's why I love Defi gauges so much:

Completely blacked out when they are powered off. Bright red display when turned on. Sic.

Boost, Oil Temp and E.G.T.

Beautiful work thus far....

Any ballpark pricing out there yet for the full set up and gauges? I SOOO want this but not sure I could handle losing my car again for a few months. Have to think its going to be a blast to drive if you can stay out of jail that is :)

For real. I'm sure Lou will find himself racing R1s on the highway once he gets the car back! And to answer your question, yes, we're getting closer to getting all of our set twin turbo package pricing together, we should have them ready soon. It is a bit of a wait for turbos at the moment, and we're working to get a "shelf" twin turbo together to get the installation time down significantly. Hopefully, we should have this available this coming spring. Maybe Tony(2theextreme) is the next TT for us?

I keep saying I'm going to start a new thread, but I'll give everyone a quick update in this one: We've installed the Defi Link Meter, and the gauges should have power very shortly! Once they're all lit up, I'll grab some more photos for everyone to check out!

All I can say is Wow!!! Looks great so far.

FuszNissan 01-15-2010 11:24 AM

lou probably has e-wood and irl-wood atm. omg so many acronyms lol

Zat_Zuma 01-15-2010 11:57 AM

Do you plan to do a write up on the parts list and the difficulty installing the DEFI gauges? I have a set of DEFI gauges I wish to install in the 370Z and by your pictures thats EXACTLY the way I want it to look. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Jon@Altered 01-15-2010 01:36 PM

Yes we do actually. I can tell you now, it's definitely no cake-walk. As you saw before, in order to remove the factory gauges, just about the entire dashboard has to be removed. Running the lines for vacuum/boost/temp and power is not too tough, but removing and reinstalling the dash is what consumes the bulk of the time during install.

With that being said, this is the only place I would install gauges in a 370Z. I never really liked A-Pillar gauges, or gauges mounted on the steering column, or any place like that. I mean, it already comes from the factory with a gauge pod, so why not use what Nissan already provided? :icon17:

vipor 01-15-2010 01:52 PM

Boost is in Bar and Oil Temp is in Celsius?

vipor 01-15-2010 01:53 PM

a single DIN gauge cluster would be okay.

some sort of Cobb or other display would go in the pocket though for sure. no physical gauges there

FuszNissan 01-15-2010 01:59 PM

:excited: oh baby!

motoextreme 01-15-2010 01:59 PM

Damn that's cool!

Yes, most of the JDM temp gauges measure temperature in Celsius, not Fahrenheit like most of us are used too. And most Japanese boost gauges read boost in bar/kPa, but if you know the conversions, you'll be able to read it just fine. Essentially, the table goes like this:
1 bar = 14.5 psi
1 psi = 0.06895 bar
1 psi = 6.89KPa

Black370ZTT 01-15-2010 02:21 PM

yeah I've always rounded 15psi = 1bar. the celsius would eff me up though.

Jon@Altered 01-15-2010 02:49 PM

^ Yeah me too. I wouldn't even bother converting it; if the needle is too high, something must be wrong! Lol

Good point. I just sent him a PM. I don't see any mods on at the moment either...

I just wanted to keep Black370ZTT, and Lou Fusz's turbo threads seperate you know? Two different builds from two different cars, but both equally awesome.

vipor 01-15-2010 03:38 PM

IBTL lawl. once things are done and more organized it'll be easy to split them off and make the threads a little easier to view.

I am well aware of the difficulty required for the gauges to be installed

This is why I'm looking for insights and tips to make my project easier.
Just from the pictures I believe I can see what you accomplished and why it was done that way. It's not going a project that is completed in a day.

I'm looking forward to the write-up as I was waiting to begin final research and engineering until I could see how you accomplished it.

FuszNissan 01-15-2010 05:25 PM

Go ahead and start another thread.

LiquidZ 01-16-2010 12:02 PM

The Defi gauges are purrty. Very clean.

TXSpeedDemon 01-16-2010 04:32 PM

beautiful work!

COBB Tuning 01-19-2010 12:36 PM

We are very impressed with this build. Kudos to AAM for making it happen, we also love it when quality shops show what you can do with the AccessPORT and what a powerful and easy to use tuning tool it is! We hope to see many more builds from you in the future.

We did want to address a question that was posted many pages back:

I personally have a G37 and have been waiting for timing adjustment to work for months and have a customer with a 370z which just called me today which wants to tune his N/A car and frankly without being able to modify timing anything else is a waste of time! please be as descriptive as possible, I need some heavenly answer to brighten my day! :)

Chameleon, check out this page: CobbTuning.com - AP-NIS-004 AccessTUNER Tables (Infiniti '07-'08 G35 & '08-'09 G37) here you can see all the tables currently available in our AccessTUNER Software. You can tune ignition timing. Cam timing, however, is still being worked on. There are some unknown interplays between tables that can effect timing, so it takes some experience and experimentation to get the timing settings perfect.

Once again, great build and keep up the good work!

Thanks bro! We are equally impressed with the tuning capabilities of the Cobb AP for Nissan/Infiniti vehicles. We've even built Nissan GT-Rs with upgraded turbochargers pushing upwards of 700AWHP, and tuned these cars using just the AP. It really is a fantastic tool for tuning the majority of the cars we work on here at the shop. Keep up the great work guys!

As a matter of fact I do. I just need to resize them a bit, and then I can post them up.

StillenZ 01-20-2010 07:27 PM

LOU: I'll bet you are just chomping at the bit to see this thing and get it back home. I'm freakin excited for you!! I can't wait to add some power to this freakin' car.

Jon and Clint: I just want to give you guys props on all of your positive responses to everything thrown your way throughout this forum. I know from experience that when you care about a company you work for, it is tough to hear some of the negative comments and sometimes you just want to call someone an @$$hole..... Just wanted to say that you guys handle yourselves great and I am amazed at some of the "positive" responses you give to some of the most negative comments..

Great Job guys! Customer service like that makes me want to break down and have you guys put in some work on my Z that is in desperate need of some power.
