Engine hoist lift points

Has anyone used an engine hoist on our motor? I'll be dropping my motor soon and can't seem to find hoist lifting point info anywhere.

I don't think anyone pulls it from the top, that's maybe why?

Well I'm trying to bring it down about half way just to get the turbo kit on. I'll have it on 24inch jack stands.

I just got done doing this so let me chime in here...

You will need to hook up to a transmission bolt in the back and also around the tiing cover bridge between the two banks.

Warning: remove anything around the back that may get pinched (Electrical and fuel related)

Use a chain on the front and back.

Ok have the intake off. Not sure which place you are talking about on the front. I'll post a picture

He may be referring to the hole right there where the coolant tube is going through.

So where did you mount it?

Ended up using a strap around the tranny. Lifted the front with two bolts on the lower plenum. I'll post pictures

I made a bracket to bridge the load on the two bolts

Lifting strap around the trans. Strap was rated for 6000+ pounds.

I got everything except the L bracket, and bolts from harbor freight. The chain was actually a trailer safety chain. Bolts were 10.7 rated stainless, with multiple washers on each bolt. I had to get bolts long enough to be able to get a chain under the L bracket. Last but not least I put a U-bolt in the middle of the L bracket to keep the chain centered.

I'm looking to just support the engine to remove my subframe and swap in a new one. Mines bent. Having a hard time understanding an easy way to do that Have the harbor freight engine support brace coming. Never did this before so really trying not to break anything. Found nothing in the service manual so far.
