Forced Induction Mods

Hey all, So I've gotten the all MIGHTY approval from the wife to boost the Z :happydance:. I'm planning on ordering the kit in a few months, and would like to figure out exactly what mods I need, and what I should order with the kit. I'm going to go with the BP kit, as it seems to fit all of my needs, and is pretty "cheap" as far as Forced Induction goes.

Currently I have a Stillen Oil Cooler, Stillen Catback Exhaust, Eibach lowering springs, some sort of sway bar (not sure but are red in color, both front and rear) as well as Stillen G3 (which will be sold). I am also changing out my clutch, flywheel, csc and master cylinder this week to a Z1 Full face, Z1 midweight flywheel, and Zspeed HD CSC (Z1 I've heard doesn't work with the BP kit). I also have HFC, which I think are Berks, but not entirely sure.

So from here what would you all recommend? Clearly a AFR gauge comes to mind, but what about a boost controller? I've heard the Stillen CBE is very restrictive for Forced Induction, so would I also need the FI Catback? Restrictive or non restrictive? What type of budget would you guys set for this type of build? I'm looking for roughly 500whp, and will be getting it tuned at Specialty Z. I'm also planning on getting new tires all around, probably the RE11's.

Looking forward to doing business with you :)

I don't think the Stillen CBE would be an issue for your power levels. Those mufflers in the back would have to be heavily baffled to be an issue when attempting to make 500whp. I also believe that the exhaust would bolt up to the OEM Y-pipe, which means you simply order the kit with the OEM down pipe, and you are set...something for you to look in to I guess.

Oil cooler would be a credit, and you no longer need your high flow converters.

Air/fuel sensor and monitoring, a vacuum/boost gauge and a pod/housing for them is a great start. Some customer opt for a few other gauges, which are nice to have but most definitely not a must.

The guys at Specialty Z are very familiar with the kit, as they have now tuned a few cars with it. They could also be a great resource for information when it comes to additional upgrades. RE11's...great tires.

Sounds great! The big thing for me was wondering if I needed a new exhaust. Before I order it I will see if I can get you some pictures of the exhaust from underneath and see if it will work. I love the sound of the Stillen CBE and would love to keep it, especially if I have to spend $1,100 bucks for a new FI Exhaust. As for the oil cooler, I just went through and it seems it uses the same tap off of the oil filter bolt as the one in the kit, so I guess i'll be using the one provided.

I might go with BP kit in the future as well. I've noticed some guys upgrade to larger radiators. Seeing as we're both in Vegas aND we know how hot it can get it might be worth the hassle. Check out JWicks build thread, pretty sure he did nearly every anti heat measure you could think of for FI. I'm guessing you're probably gonna need it in case you get stuck in stop and go traffic at 115*

But if money were no option, you're right, FI is the best option but AAM's is growing on me

I started with the Stillen exhaust on my BP kit. It bolts right up (to my G at least) and sounds great. I had no issue making 500whp as Sasha mentioned but due to the design on the mufflers (not straight flow thru) it was definitely a bottleneck. Only problem with that is my tuner had an extremely difficult time keeping torque down.

I ultimately bought the FI exhaust.

Hmm. That's pretty mandatory for me. I don't want crazy amounts of torque as that's what will ultimately destroy my engine. Did you end up getting the entire cat back exhaust from FI? I wonder if they sell just the section from the BP kit back.

Tony sold me the cross pipe and mufflers only as we don't need the lead pipes so the price was cheaper. Don't quote me cuz it's been awhile but I think I saved $3-400 on the price for the whole exhaust.

Hmm. I wonder is that's the part Sasha is selling with the kits. That would be great as I can sell my Stillen CBE and recover most of the costs.

Sure it is. There no reason to have the rest of it supplied.
