700hp twin turbo project

Hey guys :hello: Its about time I quit being lazy and do a thread here because I know ill have questions, and hopefully this thread will assist others with their builds in the future.

Anyway, I had the Boosted Performance kit for about a year and a half before my motor blew up:
http://www.the370z.com/forced-induct...0-blew-up.html

I loved every minute of it. After blowing it up I contemplated selling the Z, buying a Prius, and calling myself Caitlin. I did some soul searching and decided to build the Z for 700+ hp instead. To do this I would have needed to purchase a bigger turbo and possibly do a little modifying to the kit. Shortly after coming to this realization, I was offered an opportunity that I couldn't pass up. I spoke with Mike at AAM about making me a custom exhaust and he talked me into switching to the AAM twin turbo kit, along with them making me a 4 inch single exhaust :eekdance: I was offered sponsorship pricing which helped my decision tremendously. I am really honored for the opportunity to participate in their sponsorship program and will be posting a review when this is all completed.

Now for the motor, Im planning to build it myself. Im a big DIY guy, so if this thing goes, I only have myself to blame, and ill likely learn a lot from this experience. I scored a motor with 6,000 miles on it for super cheap, which will be the transplant heart. The engine will have Carrillo rods, 9:1 Wiseco pistons, ARP L19 head studs, ARP main studs (haven't purchased yet), and the usual head work. Ive thought about doing the JWT cam, but I haven't decided yet. I also picked up an ATI Super Damper in a group buy here for cheap.

Next is the machine shop. Funds are the hold up at the moment. After Christmas and a recent vacation, not to mention setting money aside for ZDayZ, my bank account and wife hate me right now. I still hope to have the Z done by ZDayZ though. Anyways, I still need to buy the main studs and send all of my parts over to them so that it all can be properly machined. Im also still waiting on the turbo kit and exhaust from AAM. After that, Ill rip out the old motor and get this new one ready to be put in

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to share them.

Want to build my motor? I'm thinking about putting a Novi 1200 series blower together. Question why run 9:1 pistons? Guys are making that power with higher compression pistons, Im just asking?

I would love to build you a motor! But I wouldn't consider myself a "professional", so I wouldn't trust myself to build motors for other people lol. Just in case something went wrong, I wouldn't want to be the one that screwed up.

I picked 9:1 because I want to reach 700whp on pump gas (93). E85 isn't exactly readily available here. I really wanted to get 10:1 pistons but was afraid I wouldn't be able to hit my goals with that compression.

I can't wait to see the outcome of this one. My wife will probably end up hating you too at the end of all this. It's cool with me though cuz then when we all finally can get us and our wives together, you, me, and Memphis370Z' wives will at least have one thing in common!

This has all been a struggle with my wife lol. She isn't happy at all and will be excited when it's done so I will quit spending money lol. At least our wives will have an ice breaker lol.

Sweet, are you going with the standard 6758s or upgrading to 7163s?

I'll be sticking with the standard 6758's. I almost bit the bullet and upgraded to the 7163's, but the 6758's should easily get me to my 700whp. Even more if e85 makes its way around where I'm at.

Be sure to use the heavy duty actuators if you are staying with the 6758s because I am limited to 21psi with the medium ones.

Good to know. This is something that I'll need to purchase separately correctly? Or do these come with the turbos?

I would request it from AAM if you haven't already gotten the kit. The kit comes standard with the medium actuators. I don't believe they cost very much, but are nearly impossible to change when the kit is installed in the car.

Cool, thanks. I'll shoot Mike a text in the morning and ask him about it. My kit and exhaust should be shipping out this week or next week, so I'm sure I still have time to see if they can throw it in there before it heads my way.

Man I can't wait for your build to be done!
