Turbo Build

So I'm finally looking to turbo my car, but I'm still trying to figure out what is all needed to get my build right. Looking to do twin turbo of course any recommendations, and no kits I'm looking to start from scratch. I've heard that turbonectics is good any thoughts?

zguynate 10-26-2015 12:46 PM

If you're looking to do your own you can look into the CJM manifolds. There is a thread about it in the forced induction section. As far as turbonetics, do you mean the turbos themselves? Most guy end up using Garret brand turbos as they are pretty proven turbos.

Chuck33079 10-26-2015 01:12 PM

Unless you have enough experience to do this all yourself, you may be better off with a kit. For twins, go with Fast Intentions. The other good option is the Boosted Performance single kit.

Get in the Forced induction area and read for 2-3 weeks whilst using the search function. Great help.

For a "normal" turbo setup? No. Once you decide to push past 550+ whp on pump you need to plan for a motor build at some point.

edliaszenik 10-26-2015 08:51 PM

I'm in the same boat as you. (Sort of) I want to boost my z the right way so I'm gathering as much info as I can now so that I can do everything in a year or two. I'm also collecting little pieces here and there to complement whichever kit I decide on. However please read through the boost section of the forums prior to making a new thread. There's a wealth of knowledge from those who have bought turn key kits to those who have built their own and they can guide you through everything you'd like to know.

Judging but the effort put into your research and post I'm going to have to say find the cheapest turbo on eBay, buy some tubing from home depot , and get a lot of duct tape then have fun.

:wtf2:

Fast Intentions FTW ;)

Piggybacking this thread I know there is no safe WHP number before having to start to plan to rebuild motor.

Lets assume great tuning and fuel. Is 500WHP a safe number on stock bottom end?

Almost all of the FI TT cars are stock motors running 500+whp

Plus 600+ on e85:p

TopgunZ 11-02-2015 09:50 PM

This is a joke. The guy wants to fab his own kit but is asking if turbonetics turbos are good? I call total bs....

Wow can you guys chip in on how long you have been boosting on stock bottom end

37winner 11-04-2015 12:23 PM

Just get the new forza game. Saves you lots of headaches in the long run.

gbrettin 11-04-2015 01:00 PM

Yes, Turbonetics have really turbos. I've seen some amazing times put down with them at the dragstrip.

Rob298mx 11-04-2015 04:38 PM

Dude honestly I know it's easier to start a thread and ask a question but seriously look at the previous threads on here. All of your answers are in there, you'll probably find more info and answer any future questions you may mock up. Guys are ******* you around because you showed little effort in finding the answer. Sorry..

7k hard miles at over 500whp. Includes 30-40 passes at the strip and a ton of runs at the forged performance zdayz airstrip event still going strong.

DJtodd tracks his car pushing over 600whp and its running like a champ. Once people get the fueling issues corrected on these cars they seem a lot more stout then what people originally thought.

Hotrodz 11-05-2015 07:48 AM

I got 20k on mine and I have had zero issues with my engine...FI FTW!!!:driving:

ROBERT1183 11-05-2015 08:01 AM

Im running the aam kit on mine. Stock block. 9lbs. 540whp 424tq

In order for anybody to truly help you and assuming this isnt a troll thread. What are your goals? the more details you give the more we can narrow down the advice and put you on the right track. Also what is your budget?

I would steer clear turbonetics and look to a high quality turbo manufacturer. Check out HTZ turbos FI uses them in their kits and have made 700whp on stock displacement. Your budget and goals really define the path you take. The lower the budget the less components your kit will have.

Custom Turbo manifolds are anywhere from $1000 ea. to $2500 ea.
Decent Turbos are $1300+ each
Intercooler will be $400+
Piping depending on design will be $1000+
Boost controller and other electronics can run you up to $1000+
Down Pipes will be $1000 or so
Oil Cooler and custom lines for turbos $700+
Supporting Mods $1000+
Ecutek with tune $1000+
Labor $5000+

The price starts to add up. Make sure you have the money to play. You can always mitigate costs and bring the cost in but why re-create the wheel when you can get a Turn key kit with support for the same cost and high quality R&D'd components.

I would put my money with Fast Intentions!!! I have seen all the kits in person and I have been the test dummy for most of GTM now Gamma motorsports development up until this year.

Would it differ if single vs twins as a single is pushing more boost to achieve same numbers as twins.

Looking at BP kit, planning on running 6lbs on the street and turn it up here and there

It will depend on the turbo used... the stock internals are good to about 500ftlbs of TQ

Especially with a single turbo when that torque comes on like a freight train

Hotrodz 11-12-2015 03:51 PM

Torque is what scares the crap out of you when it feels like you arms are not long enough to reach the steering wheel because you are pend to the back of your seat and then when it's all over you smile and say that was so cool. Nothing like that rush...:p

Spooler 11-12-2015 07:30 PM

LOL, Torque is what is trying to rip the car apart. Clutch, tranny, driveshaft, Rear end, Half shafts, Tires, and rods. When you get enough of it you will find the weak link. Rods, Block, crankshaft, etc.

Hotrodz 11-12-2015 07:45 PM

:iagree: Yup, and its fun right up until it goes bang!!!
