Codes and more Codes? now no start...

Last night I left for a short rip around, car was warm as I had it running a couple hours before.

I gave it some gas - and the rears started to break loose nicely for a few seconds then bang all lights on the dash come on - limp mode I think.

And my Engine wouldn't rev past 1200 rpm or so, I had some traffic behind me and I had to wave them past. Idle was fine - decent vacuum. But Check engine soon and traction control light on.

I had my code reader with me - parked on the side - 5 codes - sorry don't remember the 2 I erased but here they are:

P0223
P0123
P2101

Lucky I was a block or so from home - but I got it back into my garage. Again 1200 rpm is the speed of walking. I shut engine off - and restarted and got a rough idle.

Been doing some research - Throttle valve might have been dirty - so I sprayed them with carb cleaner this morning - and reset the ECU - went to got start it. And nothing - not firing. Check engine light still on and traction control light as well.

Looks like I might have to trailer it to the dealer... uggg. Any ideas?

Is your Z modified?

Any recent mechanical changes to the car?

instroke 10-15-2015 02:43 PM

Sorry should have mentioned that...

Boosted Performance turbo (low boost 7 - 8 psi) - Ecutek tune - Cj motorsports S1 fuel return system.

Fuel return system is fairly new. Engine fires for a second or two but dies, fails to hold idle. Fuel pressure is good.

Will the car run if you hold the throttle down?

phunk 10-15-2015 03:43 PM

Your issue reminds me of this thread: http://www.the370z.com/engine-drivet...in-my-ecu.html

I posted in there some time ago when my throttle drivers or throttles were acting up and giving me some of the codes you have. After some playing around clearing codes and messing with the throttle, I was able to get it to stop misbehaving. The problem did not re-occur yet.

Held the gas down while starting and it rev'd super high - won't hold though - but tons of exhaust out the tailpipes. Probably un burnt fuel.

If I give the passenger side Throttle Sensor a little tap - I can hear a rattle - when I do the same on the driver's side - no rattle - hymmm.

The first two codes are throttle pedal related. Make sure the connector didn't get knocked loose.
The last code is a throttle plate position problem. Check connectors.

My passenger side throttle makes a springy sound if I tap it, the driver side doesnt.

Sounds pretty similar to what my car was doing. Assuming it will let you: try what I did... clear the codes out, start the engine with the gas pedal down (dont go up to 7500 or anything, just whatever is required to get it to run), then lower it down very slowly to idle speed... and if it will hold idle let it idle for a minute, then shut it off and wait, turn it back on.

No idea what was going on, or why that fixed it... but thats what I did and then it never acted up or gave me throttle codes again.

K sounds good trying now... crossing my fingers.

ok - some good news --- I tried to erase codes via code reader. And Start it up right away - missed it for the first 3 trys but then got it on the 4th try - it rev'd high for a bit and as soon as I let off the gas rpms would drop to 500 or so then to 1000 - i held it at 1100 rpm to hold a steady idle and the ecu then learned the steady idle.

But still in Limp mode as it won't let me rev higher than 1500 rpm. And the codes come back with Dash lights. Check engine soon and Traction control light ugg.

phunk 10-15-2015 05:26 PM

Hopefully some more screwing around will fix it. I probably messed with mine for like 2 hours before it stopped... what I posted was just the last few things I did before it quit.

My z has had the Boosted kit for sometime now - but it was a loose plug. Most mechanic's would check this first thing, but I took it for granted. Pushed on it, locked it snap only 1/4" push. Weird this would pop out over time - deleted codes - fired up perfect and ran er around the block all is well.
