People with Modded Vortech V3 stillen kit chime in!!

I need some info before we jump into the deep end. me Sasha from Boosted Performance where talking about coverting my Stillen kit from Water/Air too Air/air. We've actually been talking about it for a few years now. I want to pull the trigger now. This will help get rid of weird IAT readings, I feel this will make the stillen kit way more superior. So as you know, there isn't much room on the stillen kit. I need to know if the Vortech V3 blower VOLUTE can be rotated from 180 degrees to 90 degrees (blower pointed towards the ground). Can this be done? hoping someone can help us.
thanks!

Should be able to. Take a pic of the backside should have several bolts around the housing, loosen and spin. I had a vortech on a previous car that i was able to turn the blower and add an air intercooler to it as well. But the design may have changed by then. There is another thread on here where me and someone else was discussing doing this

Also do u plan on using the stillen manifold? Probly the easiest way for routing piping turn blower down and enter intercooler on drivers side then have passenger side have 2 outlets.

Yes, exactly.

your dead on. Blower down 90 degrees, Pipe down through driver side, y pipe off passenger side intercooler, BPV mounted there, then 2 charge pipes up to the stillen intake mani. Remove all the air/water ****, plug off the intercooler in the mani aswell. MAFS will be mount by the TB's like the factory set up :).

If u track your car you could leave the intercooler part in the manifold and run an icebox setup

that's a good idea, ive been thinkin about that. i don't track the car, but colder the better.

Well the ice would only last long enough for a run. But if all you are concerned about is the intake temp readings, why not pick up 2 maf bungs weld them on the underside of the piping (so out of sight) pick up 2 used mafs then figure out wich wire is used for the temp and run those to them. Or if an aftermarket iat sensor would work use that instead. Still a draw thru maf setup less piping and way cheaper. And it wouldnt look any different

When I was picturing this, I wanted to keep the Vortech clocked the same way it is. Run the pre-intercooler pipe along the top of the radiator, turn thru the passenger intake hole in the core support, then into a top passenger-side inlet on the same intercooler BP uses for the single turbo (but upside down). Then the intercooler outlets will be on the driver and passenger-side bottom. Then route the post-intercooler charge pipes into the bottom of the engine bay and up to the stock intake manifold. Then use factory MAF locations and a pre-supercharger intake and filter similar to the Vortechs on the 350Z DE.

I'm no fabricator, so that may not be possible. But I'm almost positive Ive seen charge pipes routed that way. VSR maybe?

Edit: yes it's VSR. Here's a couple of pics I found on Google. I mirror imaged them for a better mental image.

All great ideas, im going to leave it to Sasha at Boosted Performance.

He will find the best/ easiest way, we are starting it on AUG 17th, booked for a tune on the 23rd. ill update along the way,

While its in there, have him figure out a way to brace the Supercharger Bracket in case you want to pulley-down for more horsepower in the future. The bracket starts flexing pretty bad around 13-15 psi. It would be easier to design it all at once.

you'd be best off talking directly with Vortech about the unit than here, keep in mind the V-3 unit is internally lubricated, so it may need to remain upright for the oil to circulate properly.

read #1, B, says 45 degrees.

Talked with vortech today, they said its not problem rotating the volute, the blower has to stay in position but the volute can rotate 360 degree.

Good news!!

are you still going to be using the V-3 blower/keeping it internally lubricated? or upgrading to a larger unit?

Boosted Performance 03-13-2015 11:37 AM

The V-3 blower is rated to flow 1150cfm. That should be good enough to get you to 600whp, if all other supporting mods are there of course.

sweet man, very interested in what you are working on :) I've held off upgrading anything else at the moment, was thinking of going E85 and seeing what comes from the kit as is with 9psi but decided to hold off for now.

AntiVenom 03-14-2015 06:55 AM

sub'd

the water/air portion of the stillen kit is the primary reason i was hesitant to go stillen. will be nice to see an upgrade path to a "stage 2" version.

airikrankin 03-14-2015 08:28 AM

im with you, considered doining a rear mount also, but supercharger is what i would like. i contacted gtm they said there kits are 4-6 weeks from shipping. would do a 500$ deposit then let you know when the kit is together but that would be a risk. said they were making a comback but who knows. i would only do a COD with them and would prefer them to atleast try to make good with the people they ripped off. it sucks cuz im really into thier kit. now if stillen would just sell the blower and mounting brackets i would be into that and do a front mount myself

:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:Don't believe a word of it. At this point, with all that has happened, going with GTM is just retarded. He will tell you anything to get your money.

Boosted Performance 03-14-2015 09:54 AM

I believe that the Stillen kit has higher potential than the other kits due to the head unit. The only issue IMO is the way they have the piping configured.

airikrankin 03-17-2015 11:19 AM

what kind of room in under the blower? if keeping stock manifold and running the charge piping to the drivers side is it possible to run the piping under the blower then up to the tb? found a wrecked g37 with this kit on it, before buying was just curious of the room under the blower. it just seems pretty tight to go above or around

EVOHUNTER 03-17-2015 01:20 PM

I've been looking into it, Either rotate the blower to 90 degrees and run the pipe down the fan shroud, on the driver side. around the rad and into the intercooler. then up through the passenger side into a Y, then into the TB's. Theres minimal space this way.

Or keep the blower in the same position, run a 12" pipe up to the factory coolant cap, then run it down between the 2 fans, there a lot of space that way. Then back around the passenger or driver side.

There isn't much room the way your thinking.

airikrankin 03-17-2015 01:32 PM

any chance u could get a pic?

EVOHUNTER 03-17-2015 01:45 PM

we haven't started on it, but my cars in pieces right now.

Do you want a picture of the blower assembly? and the space around it???

the blower is still in the car, but everything else is off.

airikrankin 03-17-2015 03:04 PM

ya like to see space around the blower in the car all sides please

EVOHUNTER 03-17-2015 03:05 PM

Give me tell tomorrow, ill get you some photos.

airikrankin 03-17-2015 03:09 PM

ok thanks, i found a wrecked g37 with the stillen kit on it, front pipe is damaged, but everything else looks ok. wants 5500 for the whole car. i could part it out and scrap it (my dad owns an autowrecking) and get some $$ back and have a spare engine for just incase. but before i get it id like to see how exactly it fits in there. that g37 is in new jersey and im in pa by pittsburgh, so i would have to have it shipped
