Gauge Cluster Swap

Well,
My wife drove to work last week and all the lights on the left gauge went dead. I can see the MPG bars working but the back lighting is off.

I spotted a NISMO cluster on ebay and decided to swap them out. I like the new TAC, the color matches my platinum graphite, looks good. Tested it and lights are still out on left side.

I checked all the fuses, and doing my research to figure out the pins for the gauge cluster plugs. Will post updates if i figure out what my issue is.

I've read that the shipping plug caused some issues, mine is an 09 and doesn't have that plug. This should be fun, I really hate wiring. If anyone knows what may have caused the Temp, Fuel, MPG back lighting to go off please let me know. Thanks

The FSM might have something useful for you, but it usually treats the instrument cluster as one, no-servicable-parts item.

I don't think a MT cluster works on a 7AT

Has anybody tried it? The params that aren't transmission-specific (tach, speed, &c) may still work.

Damn... I didn't know that.

I remember reading that they were different...

Is your mileage the old mileage? Or what was on the cluster?

I'm betting the mileage will change to what's on the nismo guage.

Yes it has, i need to get it set at the dealer. Also think the NISMO cluster is working due to mine being a sport touring model. Yes it's AT but it also has rev match.

Kelly and i spoke tonight and figured out that installing a base model gauge cluster would probably not work. Can't confirm, don't have one. But so far so good.m

Will swap motor next weekend. I'll take lots of pictures.

I dunno... Just don't set it... Lol

And I'll be looking for a Nismo cluster too now that I know the 09 sport touring will accept a Nismo cluster

I would have guessed odometer data is stored in the ECM. Apparently not. Filed for future reference.

glad you got it working!! can you post pics of the nismo cluster with the AT showing? lol

Update:

I got to put the car threw the paces today.
1. Gauges all work with MYT Gauge cluster
2. Drive, Park, Neutral, Revers all shows on my 7AT
3. I went from 70,000 miles to 39,000 miles
4. The paddle shift does NOT WORK!!!!

So don't do the swap out if you use your paddle shifter.
Thats what i get for asking my wife if it worked when she drove to work. Sorry guys..

I'll pull the cluster apart and install the face into mine. :owned:

This is when you put your original odo in and the mileage will still read 39k LOL.

Hopefully not. By the way the link you posted in your first post is talking about buying the new 370z when it first came out. Doesn't show how to remove the odometer.

I'm going to try and ressurect this thread.

My Z is an 09 Touring. It does not have the sports package and it's a manual transmission. Does anyone have any idea if I can swap the gauge cluster for a 2015 Nismo cluster? I know the mileage will need to be reprogrammed, but that's not an issue. I just need to know if it will physically work.

Anyone have any idea on this or theories?

As always, any and all help will be most appreciated.

Do you know if we can remove the gauge cluster and start the car and drive it ?
I would like to remove it to add an AIM dash logger but I know on some cars you have to keep the gauge cluster.

Unfortunately I can't answer that, but I'm curious to know as well.

So then the cluster is responsible for passing on the signals for the paddle shifters to the transmission control. I doubt this is on CAN, so check the wiring harnesses going into and out of the cluster, and look for any missing wires on the 6MT cluster's harness that are present on a 7AT. I forget which chapter/pdf file of the FSM includes all of the connector pinouts, but It's in there. Check LAN and MWI first.

When you said "I pulled the cluster apart and installed the face into mine" Do you mean you swapped the gauge face only and installed it on your original touring cluster? I want to change the gauge face as well but not sure if can be done.

I did exactly that a few months ago. I swapped the tachometer face, the info screen on the left side and the trim bezel. My 2009 touring gauge pod now resembles a 2015+ NISMO pod. The only difference is that the small gear indicator screen, located below the tachometer on mine doesn't work. It was pretty easy to do. You just have to be careful with disconnecting everything. You don't want to break any of the connectors.

The photo is of the finished product. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...53ee7c907c.jpg
