I want to change the ballast as well. Any of you know how to go about changing out the ballast? I bought an aftermarket ballast...

Can you change one out and do a pic of the difference between oem and the 55 watt. I feel like ever since I painted my headlight housings, the brightness has dimmed somewhat. If it makes a difference,I might switch.

Ima try and see what happens. I've read you have to cut wires and manually connect them, but I'll see what happens

Just run the 5K HID's. No need for a ballast swap.

This is correct. 43k has the highest light output. it is white with a hint of yellow. 5000k is probably a good compromise if you want whiter look without losing too much usable light. Anything above 6000k will lose quite a bit of lighting comparing to the stock.

So much misinformation here. Optimal light output (lumens) is achieved with OEM 4300K bulbs. Anything over that you are sacrificing output for a certain "look". If you are serious about it you should look into theretrofitsource.com for projector/lens modifications to achieve a sharper/more vibrant cutoff, which will give you the flicker of "color" on the road at different angles without changing bulbs.

Make your choice....

Color Temp Color Description
3000K Yellow Emits a yellow light. Often used in place of halogen fog lamps.
5000K Pure White Emits a pure white light. This is the color of choice for most car manufactures and can be found equipped on a wide range of vehicles. Used if you want the most light output and the best performance.
6000K Crystal White Emits a pure white light with a very subtle hint of blue, this is the most popular color choice for aftermarket HID installs.
8000K Light Blue Emits a more blue light than 6000K but is not defined as true blue because it has a hint of white.
10,000K Blue Emits a dark blue light output that is close to violet in the color spectrum. Visibility is significantly decreased.
12,000K Violet Emits a violet/purple light. This color has the least light output and should not be used for nighttime driving.
