Heated Seat auto off?

I had the driver side heated seat on high for like 10-15 min and somehow it got cool off after I turned the heat on the passenger seat. I don't know if the driver seat just turned off automatically or it was because I turned on the passenger side? The light on the switch was on for both side.

I later turned off both and turned them back on with the low setting. Both seats stayed warm for about 45 min. with no issues.

Normal?

Mine does the same...i just figured it is an auto off thing. I'm too lazy to read my manual....sub'd.

so does it turn itself back on after it cools off or you have to turn it off and on again?

I have to turn it off and on again then it heats up all over again. It has always functioned like that tho.

That's my experience as well with the setting on 'high'. The 'low' setting didn't turn off at all even after a long duration.

Thanks for the info.

Probably a safety feature to keep people from roasting their butts. Owner's Manual and/or FSM should have the authoritative answer as to how the system is supposed to work.

I think the owner's manual mentioned about having a thermostat, but didn't indicate how it suppose to work like only turnoff in the high settings or whether it would turn on and off by itself once it reaches certain temp.?

The FSM (page SE-11) shows two non-adjustable bi-metal switches in series for each seat heater. They should cycle with changing temperature. Those types of switches tend to have a wide deadband, so it may take a while before it turns back on.

Most cars have an auto-off for reasons including keeping people with conditions such as congenital analgesia/CIP, paraparesis/plegia, or other neurologic diseases from suffering burns.

Thank you for the info.

What does the bi-metal switch do?

You're welcome.

It's a temperature sensitive switch. Pop-disc thermostat

This is so annoying that it shuts off after 15 min and doesn't turn back on automatically on the high setting. Both our g37s and M3 wouldn't shut off on the highest setting.
