Review: TWM Performance Big Type R Heavy Shift Knob.

Awesome.

No? Want more? Fine...

First: I have never owned an aftermarket shift knob, heavy or not. So I will not be able to compare it to anything. But frankly, I don't feel I have to because if there is a better quality product I'd be shocked.

Second: I've seen people complain about the cost. I'm ok with that. I had two requirements that were not negotiable. One I had to love the way it looked. Not liked...loved. And two it had to be heavy.

So now for the more...

Came exactly as advertised, was easy to install, and the quality is excellent.

To install I just twisted my oem counterclockwise until it came off, no tools needed. I then spun on a small locking bolt followed by another bolt about an inch long. You can use the two to adjust the height by wrenching them together and in my case to get the TWM logo within 1 degree of centered. Then you twist on the knob and hand tighten. Done.

That being said: Recently a forum member had a bad experience with TWM when a knob showed up damaged. It wasn't so much that it was damaged that bugged me it was how TWM blew the guy off and tried to claim he had damaged it. If I hadn't already had my knob here and it wasn't so damn expensive to ship it back to Canada I would have taken a 10th look around for something else. But honestly I haven't seen anything else that I liked and I have not had any issues with TWM so would have gotten it anyway. Just be aware.

Finally: I have never owned a heavy before and honestly first thought it was a gimmick. But other members talked about what they liked about them so I thought I would give it a try. Anything to help make the car easier to shift. And wow...go heavy. I have no idea who came up with the idea, where, or what gave them the idea but I am glad they did. When I press in to a gear it goes in solid.

I also considered the piston and Desert Eagle. It was a hard choice. Both are ever so much taller...but I love how the Big Type R feels in my hand with its smooth corners.

Just curious - why Big Type R instead just Type R?

I have the Desert Eagle and absolutely love it. I can see why people would like the Biggie Type-R as well. Pair it with the TWM short shifter and you won't regret it, I promise :driving:

twm is definitely the way to go either way.

I actually first bought the Type R first. It was too small for me. Sold to another forum member and went Big Type R.

I actually got the washer! Great idea but for this knob I didn't feel that I needed it, nor did I like how it looked. I'll sell it for one MILLION dollars!

shorter throw = quicker shifts

It's not something that's going to provide a completely different experience, but the little things add up. It is definitely a mod that won't disappoint you.
