Driver side window stayed up again

Not sure what's going on to be honest but today the glass stayed up and I had to press the black micro switch in door jamb to get window to drop a little before I could close it.

I had my hood open if that makes a difference?
I already initialized them last week as this was also occurring on driver side occasionally before. Thanks. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/24/a7u6ase9.jpg

AdamRacer 05-23-2014 12:37 PM

I get the same problem every now and then on mine. The first time it happened I didnt notice and actually tried to close the door and I heard a loud clack which scared the crap out of me. I just pay attention a little more but would rather not have to if this is a design problem.

Im in for more info.

I'm thinking the micro switch is faulty.

Is there any particular reason why you can't just take it to the dealer?

She's BRAND NEW, and it shouldn't have an issue like that.

Because how the hell will the dealer emulate this issue when it occurs once every 500 times. LOL. ;-)

Going to main dealer would be like Damien Omen going to church.

Sorry I bothered, I was only trying to help.

Good Luck!

Duc_Z09 05-23-2014 01:35 PM

Just so you know... if that happens while your lights are on auto setting, they'll stay on until your battery dies. Ask me how I know, and why I never use that feature anymore.

I also fixed the problem by adjusting the switch with a Phillips screwdriver. Took all of 5 seconds.;)

That shouldn't happen.

Try reset procedure one more time, if the problem persists, yeah, I'd take advantage of the warranty -- you've got 3 years/36K from the build date to have it checked, so no rush.

I literally just tightened the Phillips screw clockwise by about 1/4 turn and I haven't had an issue since. My car was doing it a lot since the people who did my tint disabled the switch and then apparently forgot to re-tighten it.

same thing happens to me a few times. I think it's because of the seatbelt. Make sure your seatbelt isn't getting in the way of the door fully closing. Move the seatbelt in closer towards the seat and you should be fine.

I dont think its the seatbelt since its happened before I close the door and noticed it. The window switch is almost like it never engaged to move the window back down when I opened the door. Its weird how its intermittent and randomly doesn't work until you push the rubber switch yourself to reactivate it.

That's why I think its the switch that's defective first port of call for me. Need a price now.

I tightened the Philips screw we shall see.

Adam, did you ever get to fix this issue? Mine did it again yesterday. I went to go into car the window dropped when I opened the door as it should, but when I closed the door it did not go back up again. I had to press the rubber microswitch in door jamb to get it working again.

Thanks.

Footloose301 07-19-2014 10:59 AM

Mine has been doing it for 2 years now. Just open your eyes!

Whenever I open the door to get in the car I pay attention and make sure that the window went down slightly. Then, when you sit your butt down and close the door you'll hear it go up. Pretty simple.

IF it doesn't go down slightly when I open the door I simply use my index finger to press the button in the door jamb slightly and it temporarily fixes it so I don't have the glass all the way up when I shut the door.

I realize that you want it permanently fixed. I get that. However, nothing in life is perfect, this is a common issue. I suppose if you walked around someplace and realized your shoe became untied you would probably tie it, right? Not complain about the shoe laces.

Yeah, I use my eyes a lot since the first time I encountered this issue. I noticed that since tightening the switch screws down per my post a few weeks ago on this thread. The window now at least does not catch , it has since just remained down. I by tightening the screw the switch is now very occassionally remaining in the closed postition. hence why window does not go back up.

I have actually been lucky and haven't experienced the problem in quite some time.

Wish I had a fix for it to announce but its just been a good little switch lol.

No consistency in this problem at all.. Another observation about the auto window up down on entry exit noted today.

I have had this issue on and off since ownership. No point taking it to dealer for warranty as it occurs intermittantly. Well today, after exiting driver side the window dropped as it should, however when I went to close it , it did not raise. With the door open I closed it again, still did not raise. Next I manually pressed the rubber coated switch on the door jam, nothing happened, unlike my last post on this thread which did make the glass pop up an inch and start to work again.

In the end I had to use the door key to raise window fully as it was still approx half an inch open. Started to work again. Very strange. Prior to the reset method, my window would fail to lower on closing, resulting in the glass catching the top roof frame area, and also prior to reset procedure, it would lower but not go back up on close, however opening and closing would just keep lowering the window inch by inch. So in essence the reset method worked a little bit by eliminating a few quirks but not all for me.

On a side note, normally on exiting car should there be anything visible on the odometer? Only light on in car was the amber start button. I could have sworn the key symbol and press brake or something should show up when exiting?

mine is only visible when sitting in the car after shutting the door (key symbol and press brake)

i've also had the window issue...just pay attention and reset with door jam button...sucks but not a big enough issue for me to take to the dealership and have someone touching my z

This is it. The door jam button didn't do anything as I stated above.

I had the same issue a couple times on mine. When I took it to the dealer and told them about the issue, the tech unscrewed the button and put some graphite on both driver and passenger side which seems to have solved my issue. Not sure about it not working at all but there are some funky electrical things that go on in these cars.

The latest trick mine has pulled is that the interior dash lights only dim when the auto headlight dimming sensor thinks it's dark enough for the lights to be on. If I turn the parking lights or headlights on manually the dash doesn't dim. Now my radio dims but that's it when I turn lights on manually. SMH...
