Gloss car, matte parts, no go. Not to mention its a brake light!

Grindkiezer 03-30-2014 02:53 AM

Does light even shine through that?

^^ I would guess not, OP trust me ive thought of tinting my tail lights but dont want to run the risk of getting rear ended. But Im thinking of darkening the trim around the taillight all the way down to the body it will add a little twist but people will still be able to see my lights.

You CAN see through it. And quite well, the LEDs are just less defined. But it is brighter than expected.

I do agree that gloss car and matte parts look weird

But plasti is solid when dry. Tinting lights is normally done with a tinting spray paint. Not a solid rubber in a can like vinyl.

I only meant for black on black. Matte looks good with gloss depending on both colors.

OP if you want dark tail lights contact BlueBat on here he sells overlays it would match the car much better,;)

Looks kinda cool, but for safety, compliance and other reasons go for the translucent paint or wrap...

BTW, get ready for some nice 'dipped' comments from the crew here... :drama:

or a ticket for no rear lights

I did mine and they look fine and there has been no issues with the law, but I live in AZ and they don't mess you to much for that. What I did was two coats of black and then a coat of glossifier.

That will knock out some of the flatness and brighten it up. You will need to redo it in about 3 to 6 months if you wash your car a lot because it will lose it's brightness, but I get tons compliments because most people can't tell the difference in PD and the other options mentioned.

I recommend a couple of light coats of VHT Niteshades over plasti-dip. You should be able to find it at most auto parts stores.

*disclaimer blah blah safety blah blah*

Thanks you guys, I ended up taking the plasti dip off because I didnt want to get rear ended. Not to mention popo around my area are kinda butt munches (brentwood). But needless to say I will probably in the near future have the lights smoked by a local shop.
