What kind of 3M tape on EVOR pillar covers?

I have purchased a set of used EVOR pillar covers. I will need to replace the 3M tape he used.

It is pretty thin and I would like to use the same tape to reinstall them. I assume it's the automotive 3M tape, but does anyone know the actual product code?

Thank you.

i know wat you're taking about but dont know the part number. also, that tape makes the cover float a little bit. you can push down at it and see the cf cover flexing and bending. :ugh2:

if i was you, i would either not use the cover at all, use DiNoc instead, or use thin 3M permanent double sideded tape that you can buy at your office supply store.

I think AK did a DIY for this and he mentions what adhesive he used

Is anything really permanent in this world?

yes, dumbarse posters (not you) popping up every week. :ugh: that is permanent.

cooltoy 03-12-2014 01:20 PM

Ya, I guess stupidity is pretty permanent.

Grindkiezer 03-12-2014 01:23 PM

It's just 6mm 3m VHB automotive tape

kenchan 03-12-2014 01:43 PM

i think there's a mil value cooltoy wants.

I used this stuff when I re-attached my NISMO covers:

3M Super Strong Automotive Attachment Tape - 03609

Any auto parts store should carry it

I used that on a spoiler on another car. Worked like a charm. There's also an adhesion promotor that makes it bond better.

wat's the thickness on that, waizzz?

cooltoy 03-12-2014 01:52 PM

I am looking for something as thin as possible, so it does not "float" as Kenchan said. Stuff EVOR uses is probably only 1 mm thick.

The 03609 is thicker I believe. It's used to hold the wing down.

This must be pretty thin. You think this will survive the wind and car washes?

My buddy that owns a bodyshop suggested it to me, I also used it on my spoiler, front emblems and b-pillar covers

Not very thick at all so makes for a tight seal on lighter items ;)

kenchan 03-12-2014 01:54 PM

yah, seems like folks havent seen the mounting tape evor uses on those covers... other than you and me, cooltoy. lol

OK. Thanks for your help guys. I'll give it a shot.

Correction, this is what I used on my emblems:

3M 03615 Molding Tape .875 In X 5 Ft

This is the thinnest that 3M makes I believe and its for trim and emblems exclusively

It's actually the same stuff Nissan uses on the Nismo wing. They have this on the leading edges, and then another row right behind it with the thicker stuff. and the bolts of course.

I'll take a pic when I get home.

this is about twice the thickness of regular scotch tape you use at your desk. it's thin.

ive not tried it on exterior, but i presume it will work. just make sure you let the adhesive cure 24hrs before getting it wet.

and make sure the surface is clean.

the only thing i would worry is how well it will stick to the backside of the evor's cover. i recommend maybe a coat of adhesion promotor on the backside.

 cool.

wish they would indicate the mil...

Thiner 3m tape

Just in case anyone was looking for a thinner tape, I stumbled across

3M 38583 which is about half the thickness of the aforementioned tape.

EVOR 10-21-2015 07:46 PM

Cooltoy, when redoing the 3M, just apply side edges. Don't put in the middle. Cuz it will pull the panel inward. I would remove the old tape, and put any 3M double side is fine.

cooltoy 10-21-2015 08:36 PM

I competed this project over a year ago.

Got the VHB tape (I think kenchan recommended it somewhere), worked great. Nice and thin and super strong.
