Tail-light turn signal LED idea

Just a thought. After I do the headlight LED job, and when I get my J-spec tails, I'm thinking before I install them I'll open them up, drill holes in the bottom red reflector, and wire up amber LEDs in a line. When I flick on my turn signal they'll light up one at a time in the direction I'm turning. At first I was thinking of removing the reflector but I'm pretty sure that's illegal (well, not having one probably is) and I wouldn't want someone to not see my parked car anyways! But holes for the LEDs won't affect the reflector.

Thoughts?

that sounds like a awsome idea!
i'd love to see that on the 370 when I get mine I'd deffinately get that done! (:

i rather have it all flash in sequence.... i think it looks corny if one by one LED flash

Sequential tails ftw.. YouTube - 2003 Cobra Sequential Tail Lights

god i loved the old american muscle cars with sequential lights. that'd look insane on this car though. and i'm not sure i'm sold... but do it and lemme see! :p

Sounds pretty sweet... you can use high power LEDs to keep your array small. I went with the retrofit route, but never got around to installing the LEDs. Since my sub is in the hatch now, it seems like accessing the 3rd bolt will be difficult without pulling the sub box out to get to the side moldings.

That does look quite good actually. I honestly never thought of really modding the lights much at all. But seeing some of these are making me change my mind a bit.

A bit O/T love the exhaust sound there also.

I asked this question a few months back.....then mentioned it to Altered Atmosphere.....they said they could do it but it would take a lot of rewiring....so I said F'it.

Sure, to each his/her own. I too like the 2003 Cobra Sequential Tail Lights, in fact that was my original inspiration. But I personally like the lights going in sequence because that'll look better when I flick my signals briefly to change lanes

I'll def have to look into this more when I get my JDMs

Yea I saw this thread a while ago, but slightly different idea. It would indeed be cool for brake lights though. Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't it be relatively simple to split the brake wires and place a resistor between each so that the current is delayed in reaching each cluster? This is similar to what was done on my bike to slow down the blinking of my turn signals. That means it would only blink once per stamp of the pedal but that would still be cool.

I think that I am going to get mine removed when I get my Z take it to a body shop and get them removed. They just do not look right.

nogoodname 09-03-2009 08:34 PM

^^^ get what removed??
