Actually, in the rear I got a great idea from looking at one of the GT race-prepped 370's: they built a little rectangular frame from 1-inch square-tube aluminum. They cut holes in the trunk floor and the underside of the trunk lid, and their little frame sits between the car's lower subframe and the base of the wing. Basically the wing is bolted to the trunk lid (just to hold it there when the trunk lid is open), and then also bolted through to this frame when the lid is closed (you unbolt to open the rear). Sorry I don't know how to describe it better, wish I had taken pics of it. But the bottom line is: the aero force on the rear wing will push through this square tubing straight down onto the lower subframe stuff under the car, not onto the sheet metal or lid.

^I know exactly what you are talking about, i have seen it before but this is similar to what you are talking about.

I think it all comes down to what type of wing you use and what application it is used for. If its for auto x and the wing will only produce 150lbs of DF at <60 mph then i woul say your fine with out an extra frame. But road race/ time attack with a wing making much more pounds of downforce then i would definately want the extra support to fully untilize that energy. There is also the option of doing the R's Tuning GTR type wing and have the mounts cut through the rear bumper. I thought about that option too, but i dont have the knowledge or resources and dont want to pay for such a custom spplication.

I was going to do something like that with the frame, but we figured a couple plates attached to the rear lid would spread the force out evenly enough. They are about 60 square inches each, so 120 total. even with 1200 pounds of force, it would only be 10 pounds per square inch.

btw, when I had the APR Wing that broke, using just its small mounting plates, it also cracked the skin of the rear hatch, another reason we did the plates.

its hard to see in this pic because the car is black, but the cracks are at the back end of these bases, going in towards the middle of the car about 3/4"

Nismo S-Tune Aero Package Nissan 370Z 09+
Nismo, Nissan’s factory performance arm has released a group of factory tuned performance accessories for the 370Z to the motoring public in Japan. The 370Z package is an external aero appearance related piece, the Nismo 370Z S-Tune Aero Package includes a nose extension, front lip spoiler, side skirts, and rear spoiler as well as rear fender protectors. Also included in the package are Nismo badged floor mats.

The Nismo 370Z Aero Package was tested extensively in a wind tunnel and will eliminate lift and provide additional downforce over the 370Z’s already well developed stock sports aero package. The aftermarket will be hard pressed to beat the Nismo parts in performance and fit, after all what aero kit manufacture has access to a wind tunnel and the factory body panel surface data! The Nismo 370Z aero parts are available color matched from the factory to ensure quality installations with a near perfect color match.

Nismo S-Tune Bringing Showroom Upgrades to the 2009 Nissan 370Z
The Nismo S-Tune Aero Package focuses on aerodynamic and aesthetic mods, eliminating lift, increasing downforce and minimizing drag. It includes: - Nose Extension - Front Lip Spoiler - Side Skirts - Rear Spoiler - Rear diffuser - Nismo Floor Mats (score!) The Nismo S-Tune Performance Package is the one we’re interested in, bringing simple, effective modifications that should make the most of the 370Z’s performance: - Stainless Steel Performance Exhaust - 19” Forged Aluminum Nismo LMZ5 Wheels - Nismo S-Tune Springs and Dampers - Nismo S-Tune Brake Pads - Nismo Floor Mats (double score!)

I have tested my car at the track...I'm no race car driver but any additional downforce I'll take...Least I feel better at the track and know my lips not going to fall off.

The part to remember from that quote is: "is an external aero appearance related piece." I'm sure being a big mfg, they do have access to a wind tunnel, but I really doubt the S-tune bits add significant downforce, just looking at them. The "diffuser" in particular isn't really a diffuser, and the "downforce" part of their claims could easily be referring to just the rear spoiler, not the front end stuff.

the section you highlighted in red was not written by Nissan. even if it was it only says, "The Nismo 370Z Aero Package was tested extensively in a wind tunnel and..." that could also mean the Nismo kit that comes on the actual nismo.

im not trying to bust chops, hell i like the added on S-Tune stuff, but im hard pressed to believe it adds downforce. sorry :/

i just clicked your links.... you took that from a store ad. find me actual documentation from Nissan, Autech or Nismo.

Well the stock one didn't get any background music, and the S-tune got some kind of heavy metal -ish elevator music intro, so it must be more badass :)
