I've noticed some rattling coming from my rear windshield. I have an aftermarket exhaust. Could that be the cause of the rattling? ITS REALLY ANNOYING THE CRAP OF ME.

Compared to my prior cars the 370z is actually a pretty solid car in terms of rattles. The only one I've got is from the rear of the adjustable steering column/instrument cluster. They used some thin walled plastic and on a rough paved road it gets a little buzzy. At least Nissan was smart enough to put some felt liner material on the interior pieces where rattles are common on other cars (adjoining plastics, etc).

yes it can. After installing my FI I noticed a rattle in the rear passenger side hatch. Just fixed it tonight. If yours is the same rattle 3500 rpm to 4000. Remove the lower inner plastic on your hatch take it for a drive and see if it goes away. Mine did. I then took some 1/4 x 1" sticky on one side foem. I cut strips and lined the whole bottom and the center hump in the plastic also cut small pieces and stuck them were the panel connects on both sides to the side plastic panels. Worked for me.

I know this is an old post but I feel a need to vent.

I have been battling a rattle in my drivers door for about a month now. I installed new speakers about a year ago (may have something to do with it), the rattle started about 10 months later. I have taken my door panel off a dozen times trying to find the source. It is a rattle that shows up if I hit a bump in the road, or drive on rough pavement at the right speed. It is just my luck that there is a rough stretch of road that I have to travel on every day on my way to work.

Last night I took off the door panel, (leaving the window controls attached) and drove in to work this morning and heard the rattle so I know it is the door itself and not the panel. My gut feeling is that it has something to do with the window regulator unit and based on a couple responses above I am going to concentrate on that tonight.

Guess I could take it into the dealership (still under the 3 year, 36000 miles) but I just feel kinda weird about that. I just have the feeling that I will make all the arrangements, drop off my car, and when I go to pick it up they say to me "We could not replicate the rattle".

pretty common rattle, i have it too. its because there are 2 wheels in the door regulator assembly, one is nylon and one is metal, and the metal one gets lose and starts making noise. if youre under warranty take it in and tell them youll drive and replicate it, and they should pull out the window regulator and fix the issue.

I think my rattle is exactly what you are talking about. Based on someone elses post, I did a test on a rough patch of road. Window closed all the way -- rattle. Window lowered a crack -- no rattle. So based on that, I felt more comfortable making an appointment with the dealer. Still under warranty so that should not be an issue.

I have not heard anything coming from the passengers side, but I am wondering if I should have them take a look at that. Does anyone know if the repair involves just tightening some screws/bolts, or do they replace some parts with a different material?

i believe they shim the area to prevent the rattle, but dont quote me on it. Ill be attempting it myself at some point in the near feature (which requires removing the window, then the regulator, kind of scary).

Find a place near the dealer that you can recreate the rattle so if they say they dont hear it, you can drive them somewhere you know will do it

Got my Z back from the dealer yesterday. They replaced the whole regulator. The rattle is GONE:tup:!!! The tech told me that there is not an individual part to replace, they just replace the whole regulator.

He did not know if Nissan had made a design change, so there is a possibility that whatever part came loose on my original part might get loose / start to rattle on the new one.

If you ever attempt to repair it yourself, it would be great if you could post a few pictures of the offending part and what you did to fix it.

See attachment for Nissan Door Regulator document. Maybe this will help.

Good luck.

Mine has a rattle i think is coming from the hatch latch. Pisses me the **** off every time i go over a speed hump or hit rough roads, its like driving in a 20 + year old equivalent to a yaris/base civic/versa etc. etc. I dont expect rattling in a 45k car.

thought the striker was adjustable? check if there was a tsb for it.

Thread back from the dead!!!!!
As I feared, the rattle has returned. So I am considering trying to repair myself.

I have the instructions for the window regulator, but they mention to remove the glass "GW-18, "Removal and Installation". I have searched with no luck to find that, does anyone have a copy they could post?
