Best and worst custom racing seats.

I'd like to get racing seats and doing track day swaps with the stocks. But I am toying with the idea of just leaving them in. If I do that I am going to want to have them upholstered to match the 40th Anniversary look as much as possible.

Are there any racing seats that make reupholstering especially easy or especially hard?

Thanks.

Status Icon seats can be customized in any way imaginable and have even been done in customer supplied OEM Ferrari leather. Saves you the hassle of running around having seats recovered

Just checked those out...cool! Save hassle and money. The thought of tearing out fabric that I paid for is never a good one.

Think long and hard about leaving them in for daily driving. If you do, make sure you get ones that will hold up in a crash, especially since you're giving up the side airbags. I would want something FIA rated. Also, fixed back seats get old very quickly in rush hour. The Brides I had in my STi were fantastic for hard driving, and torture devices for commuting.

Good advice Chuck, thanks. I forgot about the side airbags. I'm definitely only considering non-fixed backs. I just need to make sure that the SCCA class allows that as long as they are FIA.

A good choice. It didn't take long for me to understand why the guy I bought my fixed-back seats from sold them so cheaply.

Also, be sure to warn people if the seats sit lower than stock. Mine were pretty much on the floor. I picked up a date, and she just sat down normally, expecting the seat to be where seats normally are. She fell into the car, smacking her head as she fell. She spent the rest of the date holding a napkin full of ice on the knot on her forehead.

Why? She wasn't. Lets just say ATM isn't just where you get cash. But I digress.

So how do I get 40th fabric and color on it?

Can I order it for Nissan? Haha

The one I posted with red seats is actually a custom one off the Status. I think it was called lipstick red. it was a close match but the 40th interior is just too hard for perfect match.

Status do provide sizes differing from 28 waist to 38 i think.

DDing is not too bad unless you are planning on a long trip or traffic :nutswinger:

I've gone thru the color matching process for the 40th recently and we were able to find a close match but not exact. However, there was a solution with Status to send in the door panels as well and they would be wrapped in a matching material for an additional cost. The smallest Ring seat is the only FIA Status seat right now and there's another in the works. Keep in mind FIA is now requiring 5point harnesses as well.
