Very nice!

That looks really good. I want to see what they'd look like painted body color on Solid Red. :)

I Run L.A. 08-10-2009 01:10 PM

I would like to see it on a black car..

GMZ 08-10-2009 02:22 PM

Nice!! I just blacked out my fangs and I was wondering what they would look like. Im doing mine next weekend.

Asheth 08-10-2009 02:38 PM

I like it but it doesnt strike me like it did when i got blacked housed for my eclipse. Im thinking something around the projector to make it stand out a little color matched on silver would probably be very hot.

Diversion 08-10-2009 03:08 PM

I like that it made the front-end of the all-silver look a little less bright and pushed it over into a meaner category.

Other than that, the slight amount of extra dust under the lens is a bit annoying, but nobody will ever go searching for it or notice it.

whoady4shoady 08-10-2009 03:32 PM

That is super nice. How long did it take you?

Same here...

What kinda paint did you use, how did you paint it... It looks very clean, not all globbed up like spray paints, or brushes tend to do...

Looks great. I've always blacked out the headlights on my silver cars.

boredfast 08-10-2009 05:59 PM

you should make DIY write-up on blacking out the housing! they look great, good work

dcrew1x 08-10-2009 06:03 PM

:iagree:

Thanks fellas..

There's already atleast 2 DIY write ups on how to black the housings out! I used both of the DIYs to get mine done, actually!

It took time, it's not an easy process.. it's quite scary to be honest. The front bumper comes off easier than I imagined (and even easier to put back on), the headlights were a bit of a pain to pull out, you have to cut a zip-tie on the harness before it will free itself from the car.

We decided to heat the oven up to 300 degrees.. Pre-heat the oven to 300, then TURN THE OVEN OFF and put your head lamp inside on a piece of cardboard up-right, let it sit in the residual heat for 5~ minutes and you should be able to seperate the lens from the housing. It made a LOUD pop sound and I swore we just cracked the lens.. but no, it was the housing plastic rubbing against.. something, we're not sure what but there was no damage anywhere to be found.. So just be careful, we got the LOUD pop (breaking/crack sound) from both headlights.

Whole process took about 5 hours.. between 3 of us.. taking it slow and easy drinking some beer ;) Well worth it in the end! I love the styling now!

I used a Rustoleum Satin Black All-Purpose SPRAY paint.. Yes it's just plain spray paint. The paint settled really well, which is why it appears to be so smooth and well painted.. I hear Krylon Fusion is probably a better paint to use though? I wouldn't know. I went hunting all over town for Krylon Satin Black and couldn't find it, so I ended up going to Lowe's and they had the Rustoleum.. Then days later, Super Walmart nearby had a whole shelf of Krylon Fusion Satin Black.. go figure my luck.

If anybody has any questions about my process, let me know.. it's a scary job, because you don't want to get dust inside or crack something.. I wouldn't do this mod if you don't have another car to drive just in case you don't finish the work in time. Must sure you have a running daily driver! We actually split the job up into two days (3 days apart). You have to let the paint dry atleast 24 hours to cure..

Asheth 08-10-2009 09:32 PM

I think a blackchrome emblem would finish the look and black fangs

Mike 08-10-2009 09:42 PM

looks awesome! nice job.

Caravanshaka 08-11-2009 12:10 PM

sounds like you used Simota and/or my DIY for help, glad it helped someone!

Shunya 08-11-2009 12:34 PM

i think it looks good, black on black will be weird i think the contrast will be missing if u do so

XwChriswX 08-11-2009 12:47 PM

I'm thinking the back casing black, and leave the light housings the grey that they are to give it that contrast and help them stand out a little more...

TX_370 08-11-2009 01:07 PM

Looks great!

biggestbob 08-12-2009 02:13 AM

Nice, good job!

molamann 08-12-2009 03:39 AM

Does it decrease the brightness and field of vision at all?

Since the Z has projector headlights, no.. There's no reflective housing needed for it. Even on reflective type housed headlights, there's two parts, the reflective piece (you don't ever paint it) and the surrounding areas which are paintable and not used for reflection.

lingling1211 12-15-2011 06:24 PM

I really want to do this for my Z... along with tinted tail lights...

Ages 12-15-2011 11:35 PM
