Tail Lights not turning off

Hi all,

Can't seem to find any post of anyone talking about this issue. My tai lights are staying on 24/7 even when the lights are on 'off' mode or when automatic is running at daytime mode. Tried resetting the computer by pulling the battery but no go.

Anyone know of a fix?

Thanks!

Hey Jus,

Old school issue is maybe your brake pedal switch is bad, and is closed all the time? I know you said tail lights but maybe you mean brake lights?

Any mods to your car? That's usually the first question, like, "What's the last thing you did to your car before this happened"?, etc.

Is this only on rears?

Hey,

Don't think it's the brake pedal as the Burke lights go on normally. It's really just the tail lights that stay on at all times. It's only on the rears. Last things we did were just body mods like skirts so it really shouldn't affect it at all.

Only thing I can think of possibly is the uprev tune? Not sure if that would affect it though? Other than that not sure how to fix it.

Didn't see the battery part.

Assuming you mean OEM Nav, have you tried going through the Nav settings? I know you can control when the lights turn off through that

I would suggest to check you don't have something blocking the Light Sensor on the passenger side of the dash nearest the wiper.

Or you may have a BAD light sensor.

The sensor controls the lights to come on automatically when it get dark.

Have the dealer check to see its working correctly or see if its something else

Where in nav settings can u control when tail lights turn on? I know and have tried changing the sensitivity on the automatic sensor but that has nothing to do with it. =(

If it was just the light sensor then the tail lights would still go off when lights are in complete off mode but they do not. Also if it was the light sensor affecting it to stay on 24/7 then the interior switches would also stay on 24/7 but that is not the case. They still come on / off like normal. I've checked and diagnosed every normal thing. It's not that simple.

Last resort is getting the dealer to check but I just thought with the mast amount of members here someone might know.

There's like a time off setting, if I had my car I'd walk you through it.

PM me your phone number

I know the time off setting but what does that have to do with the tail light not switching off? It's only there to adjust the duration the light stays on after turning off the car no?

Yeah, but if its switched to unlimited or something, maybe that's your problem? It's a timer from when you open the door to get out to when you close it (if that makes sense)
Lets say its 90 seconds. You drive home, turn off the car, get out, close the door, your 90 seconds starts from that time.

Lol how does that have anything to do with the taillights staying on?!?! That's just the timer for when the lights completely turn off. Doesn't affect the tail lights when the car is ON. Thanks for the help but you sure you know what your talking about dude?

Sorry, it's a common problem with Canadian Z's... the brake lights stay on if your blinker fluid is low.
