I noticed at Z1's website the "Nismo" version is an extra 229 bucks, which frankly seems like craziness. What sort of difference is there for a Nismo?

Z Speed Performance Aluminum Undershroud

Chuck33079 03-04-2014 08:16 AM

It's shaped like the Nismo undertray, not the non-nismo undertray.

The two are very different shapes, the Nismo has more material involved in it.
Also, the OEM Nismo undertray (which is plastic) is over $1,400.

For something that's primarily dress up(for the average owner) , it seems very expensive.

Based on that statement, I'm not exactly sure if you know what this part is. It's the exact opposite of dress up. It's under the car. You'll never see it. It protects the underside of the motor better than the plastic.

theDreamer 03-04-2014 10:08 AM

This is the opposite of "dress up" for our car, this is a protection item.
If I had my Z today I would snap a picture, but the OEM plastic piece for both Nismo and coupe start to sag over time and tear, this piece provides real protection for the underside of your engine along with better cooling and added bonus of an easy access port of oil changes.

kenchan 03-04-2014 10:09 AM

i consider this a dress up mod myself. :yum: during oil changes.

the car does not need it, but something nice to have.

Not to mention the additional support for the bumper. Buying this is really a no-brainer. It was the first mod I did. I still love it, even though mine has to come off for oil changes after the TT/oil cooler/etc.

Same here, once I get one, the oil access is not used with the SC relocating the filter to the other side. Then again, even before the SC I still removed the undertray because it is easy and I can inspect everything while under the car.

Gismo 03-04-2014 11:49 AM

Ehhh Nismo one is 399 :( Maybe in a week or soo, been wanting this mod for a while >.< my udertray is so beat up thanks to the crazy dips in texas! and it has the tendency of coming loose every now and again!

Zteve 03-04-2014 12:23 PM

definitely on my to get list had one on my 350z and it lasted for years, oil changes are so much easier

kenchan 03-04-2014 01:07 PM

yah, when i banged up my factory cover on my G last year i was about to pull the trigger on one as well. ended up using a heat gun, VHB, and thick sheets of plastic + paint to fix the damage. looks factory finish again. :D

BIG addition to supporting the front bumper.

I can't remember-would it interfere with a front lip? Like a Stillen? Or does it connect far enough back. Broke off my lip and figure when I replace it, might as well do this as well since I pull the undertray anyway.

Chuck33079 03-05-2014 08:23 AM

If the lip interfered with the stock undertray somehow, you would still have the same issue with the aftermarket one. I'm not sure how the two would interact, but if the lip covered the bolt holes for the OEM undertray you'd have problems with this one too.

^^^^ This.

The Z-Speed cover fits like the factory plastic one. FWIW I have a Mines lip. The two parts fit without modification.

I have the 3-piece EVO R lip. No fitment issues at all. The Z-speed undershroud was one of my best mods IMO. I was totally impressed with the quality of the piece when it came. It was easy as pie to install, everything fit perfect. Which is REALLY rare when it comes to aftermarket parts of that nature.

I may have missed it but is there anyone who has the hotchkis sways with this tray? Issues?

I do. The zerk fittings rub on the undertray, but no issues.

The grease fitting rubs a little but there is no issue getting the tray on.

I'm about to have one up for sale if anyone is looking for one.

Serious question: What benefit is there from added front bumper support?

im not sure. less distortion could improve aero efficiency. my stock cover works fine to support the bumper. if anything happens to my stock one, i'd definitely get one of these for the looks though. :yum:

Not allowed to change my own oil in my condo building but I still want this lol.

kenchan 03-05-2014 12:51 PM

its one of those things just good to know you have it on your car. cant see it, but you know it's there. that's a good feeling.

I agree. I drive Houston streets every day. A lot of construction goes on around town. The week after installing I took something substantial off the undertray. Justified the $230 right there..

awesome. the factory shroud probably would've torn off. lol

jwick 03-05-2014 01:34 PM

I'm actually thinking about trying to build a template so I can get an additional tray made that will protect the underside from where the ZSpeed ends past the transmission.

Different vendor but have you tried calling Z1? I almost always get Jon on the phone directly when I call. Not sure of the time difference between but worth a shot.

Mine fits perfect and I have no issue with my sways! I pulled the trigger on it right after going FI as I was scared I would lose the OEM try on acceleration and it would tear something up. Worry free insurance!
