http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...p-install.html Does it look like there is a big enough access hole behind the tail light to get to my dent? I see a few small potential access holes, just not sure if that's good enough for my situation. |
Incase anyone's curious. Went to a body shop today. They managed to get the dent out without drilling by removing the interior truck pieces. The results aren't perfect. I'd say 90-95% of the dent is gone, not too bad all things considered. But, it is possible to gain access to the metal behind the rear quarter panel through the trunk. Thanks again for everyone's help.

Just over the weekend my G35C got hit by a rock or something dented the hood about 2" inward. I used the tab holes to gain access to get about 90% out. Then enlarged the hole using a metal cutting dremel to get the last 10% out.
That is the difference between good and great work. :D If you let the shop drill you can get the rest of it out. |

btw, that amount of high spots means you got missing paint in the inner quarter panel where the tool pushed unless the tech touch it up for you. so you have exposed metal which is no different than drilling. at least with drilling, most techs will seal it using silicone before plugging it...and with a usable access hole, the tech will have direct access to the dent so he would do much less guessing... ie much less high spot distortion. |

Btw, I'm guessing my only real option now would be to have it sanded/painted? Just curious, with my luck I'll get more damage on the same panel in the future. |

Here's what a nice little hail stone did to my fender. The dent popped out nicely and it looks like new. In my case though they did repaint the car - had to replace hood, roof and hatch.

Thanks again for all the info. I wasn't completely sure if there was a way to get ride of those makes without painting. What you said makes perfect sense though. I'm honestly just happy I didn't have to drill, with my luck my fender will get damaged again in the future and I'll have to repaint it then anyways. |
