No more Stillen Lip?
So I went to the Stillen site to see what kind of braces they were selling with the lip now. Not so I could buy from them, but so I could buy from someone else since they won't address the issue that so many of us are having.
Yes...I have a pouty lip. But, the only lip listed on their site is now a Seibon. Hmmm...Did they finally realize they had a problem & pull it? Anyway. Since mine is saggy now and I'm scared it will put so much downforce on the front of the car that it might rip it off, I guess I'll go the braces route. I prefer the cleaner look, but don't know what else to do since my underbrace idea didn't work. Any tips on braces? I do remember someone on here had done them - I'll just have to search & figure out who it was. |
i think it was TypeOne that did the modification on his stillen lip.

btw, homedepot has nice garden trims to do lips.
:icon17: lol |
I added braces to mine but it still started drooping, finally added thick piece of aluminum that is bolted to the braces and held on with 3M tape covering the whole piece. So far it is holding up great.

These are basically the ones I have, just picked mine up at my local racetrack.

Looked at mine again and the added downforce has now pulled it down enough that it upper part no longer sits flush against the bumper except in the corners. If it wasn't for the tape, there would be a gap in the center. And mine is thru-bolted with like 8 ss nuts / bolts / fender washers. Guess it's going to have to come off until I figure out a way to brace it. |
Not sure what you used to brace it, but don't use a piece of flat strap. Use something with an L shape or a U-channel so that you have vertical stiffness. Shouldn't take much.

It worked fine all summer, in 100+ degree temps, but fell off in the fall. Was hoping it would be ok without it. I didn't have any issues until it got to about 90 this summer. |
[QUOTE=scottIN;2367995]Oh-I think I used the term lip in my search & it took me somewhere else. My apologizes to Stillen for not being able to find their crappy product.
Happened to me too, took me awhile to find it haha |

I ended up ordering the support rods - the LongAcre ones. So with the rods & backer washers, it came to around $75. I think it will look kinda cool since they're black, the lip is black, and they'll be going across the red of the car.
Now I'll just have to fab up a backer plate to go under the lip. Since it will have the rod as support, figure I can go pretty thick with it. Biggest PITA is going to be that I'll have to remove the lip and reposition it. I think it's pulled down far enough now that it won't simply push back up & sit flat. It never fit 100% perfect anyway - it's tight in the corners but bowed out in the middle a bit. |
I have the stillen lip and so far so good for me.

I've never had any problems with my Stillen lip. I've had it on my car for over a year now. Just don't use the stock hardware. The bodyshop that installed it on mine used their own hardware and some tape. Never had any issues

I hear ya! Maybe we got the good ones! lol

Just installed my stillen lip and added the support rods. I'm actually digging the look.

thought someone made a metal bracket that runs across the entire bottom of the splitter to help maintain its shape? |
MACSIMIZER is that the Big Red 1.5 ton jack you are using on the Z. Do you have any issues with that jack lifting the Z? Thank for your feed back.
