Carwash Time!
How many times a week do you wash your Z? I do it about 3-4 times a week but i was curious to see what the rest of the forum members think.
Twice.... its all the time I have available to :(

I wash my cars when they are dirty; I've never especially cared about how many times a week that might be. :)

Yea true, ive got a black Z so im constantly having to wash it :shakes head:
I was washing mine every 3-5 days for the first few weeks. Now it's lucky if it gets bathed twice a month. The car is broken in now, it's got scratches in the paint, the front spoiler is about ready to fall off from all the driveway/speedbump abuse, there's black marks on my front bumper from running over an 18-wheeler's discard tire tread on the highway that I couldn't see in time because the ******* in front of my drove right over it too (grrrr!). As long as it doesn't look too dirty from a distance, I don't care anymore :)
me too, black marks on front bumper from all the driveways. rock chips in bumper and hood and side. washing when i feel like it. lucky i got silver, still looks clean after 3 weeks now. use to have black car, so thats y i didnt want black no more.
Typically I wash it one a week, usually on Friday so it is clean for the weekend.
Wash mine about every 4 days or so(if time permits), mostly because i get a lot of bugs and try my best to keep them from getting fried on there.
probably once a month, if that often. Plus its an outside car, so its always fairly dirty.
When it gets dirty or its rained out and the weather is suppose to be nice for a while (to get rid of the water spots). About once a week - maybe more. About five times a month and a wax every four washes or so....
1-2 times I clean mine in the meantime I use this as needed.

The more you wash the car the more you risk swirl marks. I only wash when necessary.

I dust and ICE (Turtle Wax product) every other day. I only wash if there is actual dirt adhered to the surface. Where I live that can be ~2 or 3 times a week. (automatic sprinklers in the mid-road islands which run at night cause streams in the road that I have to drive through in the morning)

sounds like a lot of you guys need advice as to how to properley wash your car.

I got white hoping that I wouldn't have to wash it as much as my black cars, it would be nice if people would stop touching my car, or if I didn't need to touch the hatch to close it.
but I tend to wash my car 1-2 times a month |
I try to only wash mine when it needs done, and when the weather here looks good. It has to sit outside for the time being due to lack of a garage here sadly, so if I wash it before a good rain storm, its kinda pointless heh.
Yea but you know as soon as you wash it...its going to rain. Never fails.

Last wash lasted 2 weeks until it rained the other day :). Been threatening to rain ever since, and finally came down pretty good last night :( |
Yea down here in Florida you cant predict the weather worth sh*t, it changes every 5 miutes:shakes head:

Then I think, nah, it's OK for now. Maybe in a week or two...or three...or four. Heck, let the patina build up and maybe it'll help prevent chips ;) |

Black car - say no more. :ugh:
Yea, if you have a black car you HAVE to constantly wash that thing, and if you dont it looks really bad lol
Not true the more you wait to wash your car the more dirt you are going to be draining around when you do wash it.
Just curious...you guys who are talking about all the rock damage to the front of your cars and damage to the front bumper from driveways...what is going on? Where are you driving? I've had low sports cars for years at a time and never had as much damage as you are implying.
Once a week at most. I live on a long gravel driveway and in the summer it gets dusty. It gets dusty the first trip back down the driveway, I mainly wash it do get all of the dead crusty bugs off of the front.

The only time pressure is required is when you encounter something that just won't come off. In those cases it is better to put the soap directly on your index and middle finger and apply direct pressure that way. Your flesh won't leave any swirls. |
All the show cars previous to my 370Z were daily drivers (238 miles / day 5 days a week for the past 5 years). I usually was washing the cars 2 to 3 times per week and using the detailing spray every off-wash evening to keep the soot off the car that accumulates on it from the exhaust particles in the highway air. I kept the wash regime going through the entire winter as well. I have done this since 1997 since first starting to show cars.
Yes it subtracts time out of your life from doing other things but all my cars looked better than the day they came off the production line even after 100,000+ miles. The car will always look as good as the time you are willing to put into it. Me personally I believe in investing a 20 minutes to 45 minutes every day to maintaining the look of the entire car after paying the kind of $$$ paid for them. Though all cars depreciate right off the dealer lot, the slowing down of the rate of depreciation is actually an investment. |
