Estimate to repaint rear hatch pearl white

Just wondering what it might cost to rear hatch repainted pearl white due to some damage in the clear coat.

JungleZ 04-30-2013 09:25 PM

im thinking like 300-400 bucks?

enkei2k 04-30-2013 10:21 PM

Have you tried contacting local body shops for quotes/pricing?

IMHO repainting is always the very very very very

i repeat, very last resort.

There is very little that will make your paint as good as factory paint, esp a body shop unless it is paid out the a$$ to give retarded amount of attention to detail to your one part thats being sprayed, and even then theyre there to make money and serve as many people as possible.

Rubbing compounds and buffing would be your best bet, unless its literally a hole down to the metal, thats a different story.

Before you decide to dump the cash into something that might not ideally match, wear differently, have lower quality (i know, its harder to go lower quality on paint than nissan did, however any hand done job is worse than factory) weigh all the cons and pros carefully.

$400-$500 if not covered under warranty, trying to get Nissan to pick up the cost as the flaw appeared out of no where.

You need to see 5 shops and get a quote. Get the best price with the highest consumer rating.

That quote was from Nissan approved paint and collision shop, in my area that does the paint and collision work for Nissan warranty paint work.

Most cars dealers where I live don't have there own body shops.

The spot looks like a simple dull spot in the clear could that can't be rubbed out.

The estimator and Nissan service manager never seen anything like it, they took photos and sent them to Nissan, to try and get a warranty claim for it.

I should have an answer on it next week.

Finally got word back from Nissan and the dealer, after filing a consumer complaint, with Nissan resolved in 5 days. Dealer was taking 2 weeks and no answer after pics sent to Nissan.

Turns out the dealer is taking care of the repaint for the rear hatch with some sort of customer care fund. Weird because I didn't buy the Z from them, but I use them for any BS service that I don't want to do myself.

olddudesrule 05-25-2013 02:14 PM

I also have a 2012, but don't understand why this isn't a straight warranty issue (customer care fund??). Our initial warranty is bumper to bumper, so why wouldn't this paint imperfection be covered w/o issue?

gsxr750 05-25-2013 04:01 PM

Paint issues can be tricky to get covered, as long as they pay for the repair, at least they are covering it.
