Can't wait to see the finished product. I want to do the same with my n7.

Also you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT need a pry bar to get the stereo out. once you release all the screws it practically falls out.

I'll be watching this as well, wanted to do this ever since n7 came out. Perfect tablet for the job.
Good luck!

Bandit, I see a bunch of different ones im not sure which will work. None of them say for Android devices (that I can seem to find). I found this one: Will this work? It does say supports a separate audio signal though and in the pic looks like it has a plug that will work in the jack on the N7. Im also curious if it will plug right into the factory Bose system. According to this site: It should work.

EDIT: Ordered the above unit.

Yep that's the right one. It's a lot cheaper at walmart than the iSimple gateway though. I payed full retail price for mine :S

It comes with the iPod cable and an Auxiliry input cable which is basically just a 3.5mm headphone jack that plugs into whatever has a headphone jack. So that will work. If you decide to add the bluetooth module you will have to give one up (only allows 2 inputs). The bluetooth module is $99, but you might decide to get it because it allows you to skip from the steering wheel and radio controls. With the auxilary you will have to use your tablet to skip, but you can control the volume from the steering wheel.

I wanna see pics and video of this when you're done. :D

Also, there is already a set of wires tapped in behind the passenger outlet. That's where I had gotten power for my radar detector.

Mr&Mrs 04-17-2013 10:05 PM

I ended up getting it for 84.00 from amazon, and I just got it today in the mail. So with the BlueTooth module I can stream music via (a2dp) I think its called? Im not a huge music buff so if I lose sound quality I wont care.

Dave you need to check out some of the guys that have hacked up the tablet and made it permanent. They solder into the factory buttons and run wires to their steering controls, and/or install roller wheels for control like a carputer. I do not want a permanent install though or I would have tried to go that route for sure.

On another note I ordered the wrong Asus cable (it was late or early..) doh! Im going to try and lay everything out today or tomorrow and get back to removing the Bose deck Friday.

Sigh! Road Blocked again.....So im sitting at work playing with torque and task manager, suddenly I realize I can not lock the screen on. Little research shows that google decided to take that away with JB 4.2!!!!! Only way to get around it is to Root the tablet.

At least I have 3 1/2 more hours to do some reading FFS!!!

Mr&Mrs 04-18-2013 06:13 AM

Been up all night/morning N7 is now unlocked and rooted. Tomorrow more fun begins! By tomorrow I mean today............im going to get some sleep!

LostSol 04-18-2013 06:56 AM

Im working up a PM to you right now in response to your questions, I really think a custom ROM like AOKP or Cyanogenmod will help you get the most out of your nexus. But glad to see you figured out how to unlock it!

Yes, with the bluetooth module you can stream via a2dp and will be able to skip songs from the steering wheel controls. I notice no audio loss using bluetooth with my iPad mini. Cable or not bluetooth sounds perfect to me.

Not to steal the thread, but I'm doing a N7 mount as well, and I have no idea what to use to fab the cubby. I wrapped it in DiNoc Carbon, but it looks like ****. Have you found a good material to use?

Mr&Mrs 04-18-2013 06:47 PM

I have not got to much into this part yet. My plan is to use fiberglass/bondo for a factory look. I may then send it to Tony to wrap in CF or try that myself as well.

I have not had much time to really work on it yet so I will be sure to keep everything updated as I go. The method I want to use will probably not work out it is just what I have in my head.

How ever I refuse to have a final product that does not appear to be factory or "rough around the edges". Even if it looks like I done it myself I want to to look clean.

Can't wait to see it

Mr&Mrs 04-19-2013 04:22 AM

Once again up all night (at work) trying to get my scripts working. Wow the videos and write ups make it sound so easy. ITS NOT!

After hours of screwing around I have most of the things I want working, there are probably better ways to program it, but hey its working so I dont care lol.

Right now:

Car ON =

- Screen/Keyboard Locked ON
- Bluetooth ON
- WiFi ON
- Wait 7 Seconds (to give BT/WF time to boot up)
- Load Music Player
- Resume Last Track
- Run Torque
- Default to Live View

I may tweak and add some more options but hey thats a good start.

Car OFF =

- Bluetooth OFF (Help Save Battery)
- WiFi OFF (Help Save Battery)
- Torque OFF
- Pause Music
- Wait 7 Seconds
- Screen OFF
- Lock Device

Programing Tasker is not this cut and dry, that is what happens from the jumbled commands I have. When im done I will have video and my steps I have in Tasker. I actually had to get two extra Apps to make this work. One for deeper root options, and one for turning off the display.

It has been fun though and the more I read the more amazing Tasker is/can be.
