Drilled Holes in Front Bumper ('13 Nismo Z)

My dealer went to get the Nismo Z that I want, and it's on the way to the dealer, but they forgot to ensure they got one without pre-drilled holes in the front bumper. So, I'm left with two options at this point. I can go see the car and take off the front plate to see what it looks like. Or, I can reject the car and make them go get me another one. Does the Nismo have two holes or four holes in the front bumper? If it's only two, how bad would it look with two bumper plugs?

speedfreek 01-10-2013 02:40 PM

Like crap. If I am not running front plates then there better not be any holes or plugs on the front bumper. Make them find you one that doesn't have the holes already drilled unless you just can't wait.

Gauge 01-10-2013 02:41 PM

2 and bad. I'm surprised they won't just fill them and paint over for you. Or you could just get some white plugs. There are two divots where the drill holes are supposed to go anyways, so if they fill them in it would look better than stock IMO. At least then it would be flush.

Up to you though. No question two holes in the front will look like garbage though.

chrischhorn 01-10-2013 02:46 PM

Mine didn't have holes when I bought it in Texas but I HAD to drill into my front bumper in Hawaii because they won't pass you for saftety without it mounted on the front of the car......not even When i taped it on lol.

See, I don't want to do plugs because I'll still see them on the front bumper. If they repaint the entire front bumper, then the car will go from being brand new to not so brand new. Also, the paint won't match 100% like it does from factory; you'll be able to tell that it has been painted and re-clear coated.

I know if I walk on the car they are going to be pissed, because they had to trade a vehicle for it and then they will be stuck with a Nismo on the lot.

Just have them fill it and paint it. It' snot that big of a deal. These cars retain their value really well. If you have it professionally done no one gives a crap.

enkei2k 01-10-2013 03:00 PM

If the car isn't to your satisfaction, reject it and don't take it. Have them find one that is exactly what you want. You're paying them to find the car for you. Why would you accept something that's not to your liking?

Unless you need/want the car right away, I'd have them search for another one

My car came pre-drilled and I didn't really care (since NY you need F/R), but my dealer, Joe @ Koeppel was upset.

They don't have to repaint the entire bumper. They can fill the holes and then blend the paint just in that area. I took my bumper to a body shop last year and had them fill in the holes and paint. The paint match was awesome and you would never know there were holes there. I think I paid like 300 bucks for it.

I didn't know ppl we're this serious about small things, I thought they were just fairy tales haha I took off the front plates and the holes are drill I still drive around like that!

Damn now that I think about it I don't like it, ima have to do something about that.

(My car is still at the shop until I pay the $1200 dollars for the steering lock repair "holding back tears")

I had a similar experience and yes it took months to have them fix mine too, but they did.

An area, that a lot dealerships ignore in states that require front license plates is the following from the PDIC (pre-delivery inspection checklist)

IMPORTANT: Consult with Sales Department. Install front license plate mounting hardware/bracket at customer request. Otherwise, place hardware in vehicle for future installation.

Most dealers ignore this, refuse the car for I doubt if they asked you this or if the dealer wants the sale they need to fix it.

For my 2012 Black Cherry 370z the cost was about 1040.00 dollars.

Good Luck

Believe or not, that was part of the pre delivery of a new Z written by the so called engineers from Nissan.:shakes head:

That quote happened after my case and many complains similar to mine. ;)

VAUROS 01-10-2013 09:06 PM

I told them to fix it by filling the holes and just blending the area.

If I don't like it then I'll walk.

:tup:my dealer had all the stuff. Placed in the hatch area-not installed....

cbrboy86 01-10-2013 10:18 PM

i know how that goes...i bought my Z from a dealership in Texas and they installed a plate, using screws damn near the size of my pinky. nothing like needin to fix the car right off the bat

Mick_12Nismo 01-23-2013 10:55 AM

My '12 MB Nismo came from the dealership with two small holes drilled into the front bumper and the plate and bracket screwed in place. Truthfully I didn't know any better/think twice about it until later when the installer of my clear bra commented on what a shame it was that the dealer had done this. On his recommendation I removed everything and bought two color-matched plugs from bumperplugs.com. They fit well, match perfectly and I don't even notice them (although it probably helps that the car is black).

the factory plate braket mounts to the black part of the bumper (not the painted portion). so if your dealer did it 'right' you can get CF covers to cover up the holes. not sure if compatible to nismo bumper though.

thezstore sells them.

I need to buy these, unfortunately. The dealer I bought mine from did it after being specifically told not to. They also damaged the fresh clear bra in the process. If I hadn't flown in from out of state to buy it, I'd have told them to keep the car. The cost of fixing it was less than the cost of the return flight home.

Volk Z 01-26-2013 07:03 PM

This is why I love living in a state that doesn't do front plates!

Personally I would have either gone to a state that doesn't drill for the front plate or requested the dealer get one from a state that doesn't do front plates.

The dealer does this when they do their "safety check" which FYI they will always forget to take the black plastic things off the springs in this check....

The other option is a go mini go or stillen tow hook license plate holder. No holes in the Z.

SAmilitaryman 01-27-2013 07:33 PM

I went in to get my plates and the guy who was gonna put them on walked out with a drill. I kindly said I'll put the plates on myself thank you. He gave me a dirty look and tried to insist that the dealer had to put them on. I called the manager and told him that his worker was not drilling holes in my car and I would put the plates on. The manager must have seen the look in my eyes cause he just handed me the plates and said have a good day sir.

The front plate is sitting on the table at my house.

Surprised no one has used bumper plugs. This was a Porsche started trend.

But we do this for our Pre-owned Z's that get traded with front plates on them. We remove the plate order the plugs with the correct paint code drill the hole just a smidge bigger and insert the bumper plugs and there you go, no more ugly holes.
