I'm hearing a lot about not being able to get the color combo you want? Question...

So I'm looking to get a 370z soon (hopefully) and I'm hearing a lot on the board about not being able to get the color combo with the options that people want. Nissan doesn't let the customer order the car they want the way they want it? I've only had experiences with german cars like BMW and they always let you order the car you want the way you want it straight from the factory (i got my VW used fyi so i'm not sure how they do it). I thought toyota was the only one playing those games. My dad used to buy land cruisers and got sick of toyota playing those games (so we ended up getting a range rover hse so i'm not complaining lol).

You can usually order what you want, a dealership may try to get your to buy what they have on the lot or coming in first since that is the most direct sale. Also, Nissan cut production so dealerships may not get the normal volume they expect so they are being stingy.

hmmm.. ok well it looks like if i go in there i'll have to be demanding and hope it persuades them lol.

Go in with some or one piece of paper with exactly what you want, listing MSRP and invoice price of each item (use this list) and show that this is what you want. I had this list and got exactly what I wanted, ended up having two dealerships fighting over the price and one went invoice plus gave me more for my trade in, while the other was pushing for 100 over invoice (and by pushing I mean pushy).

Good call, i'll do just that thanks! I'll let you know how it went :)

This is a really good read also.
How I have scored invoice pricing with 3.99% APR on my 370Z?

Do the DIY build at the website then ask for a quote. Thats the best way to go. If you write it all down on a coctail napkin then they will just show you whats outside.

Yeah I was definitely going to do it that way.

You can definitely find some good information (ammunition) on this site. I picked mine up this week and got the price where I wanted and what I thought was fair for both of us. On color/combo choice, I think you need to be a little flexible if you want a good deal. The more pickier you are, the harder you make them possible spend wasted time if you don't purchase. If you have to order from the factory, you probably won't get a deal on it. I'd expect to wait several months before you even got it. I've read several articles that consumers should expect car prices to go up towards the end of the year, because by that point they will have thinned out their inventory. Demand will be greater than the supply because all manufacturers are producing less and operating lean (I've always wondered why manufacturers didn't use this model approach instead opting to flood the market w/vehicles).

I wouldn't mind waiting for the car to come from the factory and not getting as good of a deal as long as that's an option. I'm the kind of person that is good at going in there and talking them down in price and making sure I get what I want but I was getting worried hearing all the stories of people searching like crazy, not finding what they want, and just giving up and settling for another combo. That made it sound like ordering what combo I want from the factory isn't even an option.
