Undecided about the fog light?! Help

Should I get it and make it a brake light or leave it on at all time? What have you guys done!??

theDreamer 12-20-2012 09:53 AM

I had mine on a switch that I could control, but if I had not done that I would have wired it into the headlight switch so if they were on it was on. I did not like the idea of it being another brake light.

SouthArk370Z 12-20-2012 10:00 AM

If I were going to install the fog light, I'd get one of the lights that allows constant on (wired to ignition, head lights, or tail lights) and blink on brake (light has built-in blinker circuit). Best of both worlds.
I've seen at least one light that will do all that on this site, but can't remember where - Search is your friend.

henryy370z 12-20-2012 10:48 AM

thanks i like that when ignition is on so is the light

DEpointfive0 12-20-2012 11:29 AM

I went with 4th brake light. I will be modifying it to have a dim setting and a full bright setting when I press the brakes.

It's good and dandy to have it on all the time, but it's REALLY bright, and it catches too much attention if it's on all the time.
I had a cop pull me over to ask if my lights were ok... And after I swapped cars with a buddy, I realized its sooooo bright that THAT'S why people were tailgating me, LOL

cooltoy 12-20-2012 04:09 PM

Which one do you have? EVO-R or OEM?

Kevin@RAD 12-20-2012 04:10 PM

I like it with the switch. You have the ability to turn it on and off. :D

We've done it for a few customers at our shop and they have nothing to complain about.

shaun66 12-20-2012 04:58 PM

I feel like 3 brake lights is more than enough for me. Just a preference I guess.

Z-Girl 12 12-20-2012 05:36 PM

I get mine installed next weekend...will put the switch between the heated seat switches and use it as a brake light.

gurneyeagle 12-21-2012 06:11 AM

I've got the EVO-R fog light and went with "on" with the brakes and "flashing" in reverse.

Honestly, it's not as bright as the OEM LEDs installed on the car. To me, it's just a little bling to separate my car from stock.

chrischhorn 12-22-2012 05:33 AM

Just installed my Evo-R on Thursday and I went with on with parking lights and flashing when braking. I like it, I've gotten a lot of compliments on it already and I've noticed cars slowing down as soon as I do when i start braking instead of riding up my ***.....they still creep though.....

Jmazz 12-22-2012 05:51 AM

I have the OEM installed so it comes on with my headlights. Had lots of ppl complain that it is outrageously bright when they drive behind me. Especially great in foggy conditions though.

That's the EVO-R Light. you can purchase it from theZstore.com for $115 approx.

I have it installed on my Z. I did the blinking-on-brake with this light as one of my greatest fears is the ditzy blonde (or whatever hair color, not to be picky here) female driver on the cell phone not paying attention to driving while texting/fixing her makeup/ thinking of shopping..whatever... so, figured this MAY help. No guarantees obviously... :rofl2:

cooltoy 12-22-2012 11:46 AM

It's on sale through EVO-R directly for S100 shipped until Dec. 31.

redline727 12-22-2012 12:11 PM

i got the oem one from Z1 with the short pigtail they offer to get wired right to the license plate lights. i was gonna get the switch but the extra money and install time wasnt worth it considering i would be just turning it on all the time anyway. just make sure whatever you do just solder your connections if you dont use the switch.

cooltoy 12-22-2012 06:37 PM

So it's on all the time?

Baer383 12-22-2012 07:17 PM

When I had mine I changed the socket for a dual 7443 bulb and wired it into the tail lights and brake lights,When the tail lights are on the bulb would be as bright as a regular tail light, but when the brakes are applied it is a bright as a brake light.

It's on whenever my headlights/parking lights are on. And I keep my headlights in auto mode, so it's on when it needs to be on. Plus the rear fog tends to be annoying to drivers behind me so it keeps them off my *** which I like.

mine is OEM and there is a separate switch on the stalk. It shuts off with the car and has to be turned back on. I also have my headlights on auto.
It's very bright but I would like to use it all the time so I may just tint it to tone it down a bit.

If you have the stock bulb in it you can't tone it down, you have a 7440 bulb and socket you will need a 7443 build and socket which is a dual element bulb one for taillight and one for brake light.

The EVO-R comes with two leads - one that will blink, and one that stays on solid.

I don't think it's that bright, definitely not as bright as the LED third brake light mounted on the hatch.

henryy370z 01-10-2013 02:42 PM

Nice ill put the solid but where do I connect that to my head lights

You can splice to the harness of your license plate lights or just splice it directly into your brake light harness. I spliced mine into my brake light harness so I could do the blinking when I brake and the light comes on with my headlights/parking lights. I still wonder if I should've done the blinking with the reverse though since as stated earlier. I'm sure the blinking while on the brake could be annoying to drivers behind lol.

henryy370z 01-10-2013 03:21 PM

That's not bad blinking with reverse and bright for brake

With the Evo-R light, it can be wired in many ways but you can only wire it certain ways.I thought about rewiring where it DOES NOT come on with my parking lights but instead turns on when I brake so its like a 4th brake light and blinks when I put into reverse. There is no way to make it blink in 2 difference scenarios or turn solid for 2 different scenarios or even just make it brighter with no blinking for just braking. Basically you have to pick a set up you like. But it is a fog light so wiring it to be on with parking lights makes more sense though here in a Hawaii, fog really isnt an issue...lol. If you want to custom setup everything, just buy the JDM light and wire it with relays and what not to make it do as you please.
