Front Tow Hook Question

So I found other tow hooks for the 2010 Z. One actually is still the GTM, but it's like $100+. I found a generic one on eBay for like $30 and I just need to know if it'llfit in the screw hole. Does anyone know the mm of the screw for the front tow hook? Oh and I'd be getting it purely for looks so I'm good with getting the cheap generic one lol. Thanks :)

I have actually purchased both. The GTM tow hook is worth the extra $$ in my opinion. If your buying the $30 from a site like eBay you can always contact the seller like I did to make sure it will fit. I have 2 red ones. The cheaper one actually turned pink after about 8 months because it was anodized aluminum. The GTM is powdercoated and will virtually never fade. I hope this helps in your decision making.

The thread size is 12x1.75 on my towhook (same cheapo from ebay) works well. I have added a coupling nut as an extension (as shown in my album) for the Nismo bumper.

I heard the cheapy ones break when actually towed.

Actually i thought of getting one myself. With the bumper i have, i rather have the tow hook instead of the ugly and exposed tow hook mount

i have this one....and i have also proven it to be functional and it didn't break!

I purchased the $40 eBay hook, which did come in a "JDM" anodized red (= pink). Had it powdercoated red to match my calipers for suuuuuuper cheap thanks to Mike The Powdercoater here on the forum.

Actually used it to be towed and it worked like a champ.

Thanks, but unless I can find one 'gold' in color then I'd get it powdercoated in that color. I'd rather get the GTM, but $150 is alot compared to $30 - $50. Yes I'm a cheap *** lol. I'm assuming the anodized aluminum is able to be powdercoated too right? lol

Cool, goody. I shall be writing that down :)

It'll never be utilized for towing, it'll be completely for show. Kinda figured the cheap one would essentially dissentigrate if so lol.

Lol. True, but I'm going for a specific look. Once I'm done with the car it'll be what I call subtley elegant lol.

I may very well be taking the same route as you with powdercoating, unless I can find a gold one.

ddot196 11-28-2012 06:58 PM

Yea just buy a cheap one and powdercoat it. Bam. Done.

Zoren 370 11-28-2012 07:10 PM

How much to have it powdercoated?

Yes it can be.

Then there's no reason to pay $100-150 more just because some companies logo is on it... just sayin. :ugh2:

Haven't seen very many gold ones for sale, and I can't trust the "gold" look of the JDM yellow, just the same as you can't trust the "red" look of JDM red. So PC is the best route.

You sure about that? M12x1.75 seems very small...I believe it's in the M24 range.
