Evo-R side blades
Hi everyone!
I have a question about the installation. I need confirmation of whether or not you HAVE to remove the front splash guards to mount the blades? I have seen pictures in the forums of the splash guards installed with the blades but there have been few and far between. Of course the most common way I have seen pictures are with the splash guards removed. If you can install the blades with the splash guards, can you let me know how you achieved it? I have the item on check out and I am just pending confirmation so I can "click to purchase" Your help is greatly apprecaited :tiphat: |
I believe the fronts can stay installed but i'm not certain about the rear. Also sent you a PM.
|
when i had the blades i had to part out the splash guards... :( maybe they trimmed it? but even so IMHO i think itll look cleaner with out the splash guards
|
Mine just bolted onto the skirt...
|
I dont think you have to remove the front splash guards. I opted removing mine and it looks way better. Otherwise if left on, I think it would ruin the flow. Just my opinion though.
|
You have to remove the front. If you think you have to remove the rear...you're installing them wrong.
|
I am wondering the same thing. I want it to look something like this with the mudflap
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2_img_6465.png Rather than this, which looks like it's missing something without the front mudflap.. just my personal opinion though http://www.the370z.com/members/boost...-phone-pic.jpg I'm picking up my Evo R sideblades and going to get it installed the next few days, hopefully the shop I get it done at can find a way to install it without removing the mudflap |
i take it back.. looks really nice with the flap... plus im sure itll help with the rocks... those blades pick up rocks and dirt soo fast... i had to clean mine almost everyday :( i wish i known about the flap i woulda kept mine
|
I agree that it looks better with the front flap. I should have done that when I ran mine. Ah well, live and learn.
|
I like the looks with the front flap too. Anyone get it to work with them on and how?

Thank you for posting the comparison pictures. I personally love the blades with the front splash guards installed which is how i want for it to look like. I am purchasing them and I hope the material is easy to work with because I WILL find a way to make it work. :) |

The flaps in the first photo don't appear to be stock flaps anyway - looks like they come up a lot higher. |
Are the blades hollow? If you cut and shave a portion off it would it be solid or show the hollow parts?
|
They're not hollow- they're just one piece of plastic that's kind of reinforced in certain places across the length of the skirt.
If you cut it in half, you would just see a piece of plastic about 1/4'' thick shaped kind of like /''''''''\ fancy illustration huh |
Haha! Cool! Thanks for the update.
|
Got my sideblades installed today.. and nope they do not fit at all with the mudflaps unless you have the rear of the sideblade sticking out a bit :/ Sucks I was looking forward to keeping my mudflaps..
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...23596616_n.jpg Makes me feel like it's so plain without them now lol |
Haha! Your car looks good with them on regarless but yes, there is just something nice about having the front splash guards installed with the blades on. I will try to find a solution to it and I will find a way.
|
Or you could have gone with the Ings+1 side blades which has kind of that look to it. I don't know why more people don't get these...

Those are some great looking side blades for sure.
|
Yup they are nice indeed but you will have to cough up a good amount of money for them as they are a direct buy from Japan. Evo-r is the economical route if you want to go with just blades.
For the amount of money the Ings blades costs you might as well get yourself a whole new side skirt. Not worth the cost to me. |
INGs isnt' the kind of look I was looking for, I do love my Evo R sideblades regardless but dissapointed that the mudguards won't fit haha. Especially since most of the Z's in my area don't have mudguards, it was kind of special having them. I googled it yesterday and the guy with the blue Z had a different brand of sideblades that aren't from Evo R. Can't find the thread anymore but I bet you if you look hard enough on google you can find the thread and the brand he was talking about

(my car is the first one) the aerojacket ones look better with the splash guards since they taper off in the front a bit. the evo-r ones are too long and wide for the side blades to fit nicely |
^ thanks for making my car look like crap :p
|
But is Aerojacket still a valid member? There were many bad comments made about this vendor in these forums. Having said that, it does not leave many choices out there. I had previously looked for the Aerojacket blades but with so many negative comments made, it made me look other way.

Is it possible to trim the side blade or the mud flap? Can the bottom part the flap be cut off? Can the side blades be taken to a band saw and have an inch or so cut off before they are painted? Would that do it?... Def want blades when I get my Z and flaps.

For those that have the EVOR blades, are they fairly 'floppy'? I mounted mine with the screws + half a dozen short pieces of 3M automotive tape and if feels like I could just tear them off by hand-and it wouldn't take that much. Anyone do it differently? The 5 screws just go into that 1/16" thick skirt and it feels like the screws will just work themselves out.
|
Yup mine are floppy as hell. I had a shop install it and they used 5 screws + 1 beefed up screw on each side, they didn't even use tape. I can wriggle them by hand. So far it's held up fine though after about a month of passengers kicking it every now and then..
|
Floppy with some pressure applied
I installed mine myself using self tapping screws and 3m tape...about 6 screws per side.. However a shop remarked that my blades were shorter than someone else who had them. Mine are carbon Fiber and I bought them used from a member who said Shine Auto made them, which at the time, I wasn't sure about as I never hear them making blades Then I had an RX-7 guy come up to me and say that they might be the FEED CF blades for an RX-7....lol. they are shorter as you can see http://i720.photobucket.com/albums/w...rofileRear.jpg |
Is it possible that you have the ones that incorporate the mudguards at the front?

IMO, it doesn't have anything to do with the mud guards as the contour of the addons follows the bottom of the stock skirt in such a way that if you want them to line up, you get that result. If you moved the skirt back, the top of the addonwouldn't line up right with the bottom of the stock skirt. It's a 370z part from what I can tell- they match up with the stock skirts too closely to be a part for another car. |

Cleaned them & the side skirts real well. Then put 1/2 wide 3M tape ALL THE WAY down the blades. Lined them up with the screws and stuck them on. Then I removed the screws and put a dab of silicone on each one and put them back in. Kind of a Loc-Tite kinda deal. Now they're probably twice as solid as they were - really don't move with just hand pressure. Couldn't use then as running boards or anything, but I have a lot more confidence in them now. Feel like part of the car vs. something just somewhat attached. |
I'm interested in the evo R side blades once my car has been lowered but I also daily my car in the winter... being in Toronto snow isn't a big deal but my concern is drilling into the actual body of my car and perhaps opening myself up to areas of future rust with the installation process.... thoughts?

Use silicon on the screws.
This thread is 3 years old by the way. |
I guess silicone would be on option... and ya 3 years old, I searched it and figured I would just post on it instead of creating a new thread and getting the response... "use the search"
