Emblem painting on a Black Z
My search did not quite reveal the answer i was looking for. So, long story short, both my front and rear bumpers will be getting replaced. The new ones have to be painted, so i was thinking now is a good time to paint my emblems.
My quandary is whether or not i should have the body shop just paint the emblems magnetic black along with the bumper, or should i see if they can do the hyper black (black pearl) like these ones sold on the z store? I don't want to plastidip them because that is a flat black and would most likely look bad on what is basically a gloss black car. so, paint emblems magnetic black or hyper black? Does anyone happen to have an example pic of either of these on a magnetic black z? |
A lot of people should have examples on here. I've seen quiet a few. I have plasti dip emblems lol. Looks good and can come right off. I wanted black chrome ones but I'm not paying 150 for a set of emblems. Plasti dip also has a clear coat I hear that I've yet to use. Best of luck sorry to go off topic.

Awesome, thanks for the pics Phaddi

I did the plastidip just to play around before the car went to the body shop. I personally love the flat black on magnetic black look.
Unfortunately just had to get a new phone today and lost all my pics, sorry man. |

Edit: Color matching is nice though!! Just saw the pics. |
thanks guys...i think i'll ask the body shop if they can do the black pearl, if not, then i'll just have them paint it the same as the bumpers.

IMO this is the perfect time to shave the emblems all together.
The body shop can likely fill in the gaps before painting for pretty cheap since they are going to paint the whole bumper anyway. They only reason I haven't done mine is because I would have to spend the money to repaint the bumpers, but since you're already stuck doing that, might as well. This may not be the look you're going for, but it sounded like a good opportunity to me. |

I like the black pearl, but too much $$$

Does anyone happen to know the paint code for the Black Pearl (Hyper Black)?
|
I had mine done by a body shop in Magnetic Black and IMO the color match looks great. Having the metal flake and exact same shade really looks sharp, or at least i think so. Had them paint my door handles Magnetic Black as well. Can post pics later if your interested

TLSpeed lets see some pics!!!!! Would love to see how the door handles look painted...
|
Well, i had them color matched to Magnetic Black and i'm very pleased with the outcome:

Wow that looks nice. I want to get mine painted as well.. if you don't mind me asking.. how much was it to do this?
|
well, believe it or not, the car you see in the pics was involved in an accident!! So, as they "reparied" it i had them just paint the emblems at the same time. But really, if you remove the emblems yourself and take them to any body shop, i doubt they'd charge much to paint them as long as you'd give them the color code.

Have you posted any pics?
|
How much did the emblem/door handle run you?
|
this actually looks pretty good, I was thinking of getting mine painted the same color. I think glossy black looks much better than plasti dip does.

Looks sick. Question.. do they pop off? If I want to paint them, do I have to order new ones

Or go with something more unique :)
I ordered a set in pearl white with black Nissan writing. |
I'm surprised why wrinkle finish(black)is not used more.
This paint is extremely durable.Design wise, wrinkle gives a texture to your car.On black,it compliments the body color. I used black wrinkle as an accent on my z33.Great on radiator tops(heat resistant). It also gives a hi-tech look to your car. The only negative is application of wrinkle paint. It is available in spray cans. The cost is rather low. The trick for an even finish is the use of a heat source like strong sunlight or a light source(spot light bulb) after applying. Care must be taken to apply the paint in even layers or the wrinkle will be uneven. IMO,the results are great. |
