New Shift Knob... let's try this again!

Many of you guys will remember my previous thread about my temporary shift-knob hackjob. If you don't remember, here's the thread: http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...tory-boot.html

Well, I ended up ditching the zinc spacer because it just started to feel weird (and I think I'm allergic to zinc) and went back to a small grommet to keep the boot off of the knob.

I ended up ordering a shifter ring thanks to AK and it came in today. I put it on and took some pics. Very pleased with the result. Just trying to decide if I should spray it with clear to better match the knob or just leave it as-is. Any thoughts?

Looks much better, how does the shifter feel size wise? A lot smaller than stock or just a bit smaller? I got a really small knob and found out that it was to small, if you could PM me the parts you ordered, shift knob and spacer I might try them out myself.

I like that set up a lot better than the last one you had. I'd clear it though.

PM sent.

The knob is a little bit smaller than stock... 2" diameter. It feels pretty good, though. The only thing I'd change about it is weight. It'd be nice if it were twice as heavy.

Yeah, I think that's what I'm going to do.

Looks great! If you don't mind, could you point me to where you got that shifter ring?

Looks really good. If you could point me in the direction of where to purchase the hardware i'd be really grateful!

Now that looks a lot professional than the HomeDepot ring :ugh: :icon17:. I'm glad you like it. Clear coat it, Steve! Finally, AK approved.

In my 350Z, I got the brushed aluminum (NOT pearl like the OP) and it matches pretty well with the ring(not 100% but see pic brushed knob with polished ring). If you're not set on pearl, and want to use the ring, I suggest brushed aluminum or polished.

I think I will hit it with clear this weekend. Going to see if I can find a pearl coat at my local hobby shop to better match the knob.

Much improved. It's sad that it is so difficult to mate an aftermarket knob to the shaft and boot in an attractive manner.

please post where you got the ring from!

How is the ring attached to the boot? Or is it not...

It's not hard at all...Just get rid of that cheezy plastic shift boot...

It isn't attached to the boot. It just slips in between the boot and the knob.

Looks so much better with that finisher.

Not sure if there is where the OP got his, but others can pick one up from:
