40th with Blacked out Fangs and Rear Valance
Plastidip'd the Fangs and Rear Valance of my 40th last night. I'll be posting pictures later this afternoon when I get home (was too dark last night to fully capture).
I had been wondering what this would look like with the dark grey paint of the 40th. Maybe some of you were also wondering. The best part about Plastidip is that if I don't like it I can simply remove it and it cost me $8! Stay Tuned! :) *If I like it, I'll probably do the emblems next Disclaimer: It was very overcast when I took the photos so I'm hoping there will be more contrast when there is actual sun light. Glad I got some pics before the rain started. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_4548.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_4546.jpg This one shows the contrast a little better... http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_4545.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_4544.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_4543.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_4542.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_4541.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_4540.jpg Bonus pics of car with red wheel tape: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_4539.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_4538.jpg ^Not the biggest fan of the red on the wheels. It's a little too bright of a shade of red and it isn't quite thick enough. Thought it was worth checking out for $9. Hope you enjoyed. Will update the pics once there is sunlight (on Friday). |
Cant wait to see this. Hoping to do the same thing to mine once i get my front lip.
|
I really want to see some pictures.... I bet a large area of matte black would look really good with the 40th paint.
As for the emblems; I've seen that in person on a 40th, and to me it doesn't look great. On the KAV paint the Plastidip's lack of shine and reflection make it look muddy dull and boring. I think a set of black-chrome badges would look fantastic tho. If someone only made a 40th emblem to match up with the dark badges that are out there. I do think the Plastidiped badges look good on white and bright colored Zs |

Can't wait to get home and snap some pics for you all. I should be able to have them up by 7pm PST. |

Sorry for the delay Gents, pics up shortly. Got home and found wheel tape on my doorstep so I had to put it on and see what it was all about.
|
Pics are up!
|
Honestly it looks good but not really noticeable on that color.

I like it .... Thanks for posting photos.
It's a subtle change that looks stock, so that's fantastic! I had also thought about putting a red pinstripe around the rims. That was a nice bonus to see a photo of. How did you have it done? |

Also the color red I ordered seems to be a bit too bright, i'd recommend getting something a bit deeper in color if you can find it. Also, I recommend getting tape that is on a spool/aplicator vs. being cut up into individual pieces (which the kit i got was). The stripes are easy to put on, simply clean the wheels, wipe them with alcohol, dry then apply. |

The plastidip looks great, I'm excited to get mine painted now. I personally dont like the wheel tape, but to each their own. Now im wondering how it would look to paint the emblems and door handels to match the car...

The door handles would likely look good, however you wouldn't be able to use plastidip for that - as its a moving part. The Friction from the handle being used would peel it off. You'd have to actually paint them or order black ones. I'll probably do the emblems this weekend as it only takes 2 hours to do |

I'll be picking up a few new handles to have painted KAV this week. Painted the body color, the handles just disappear into the car. It really makes it look so much better w/o the bright silver! |

I'd be really interested to see them painted body color vs. black |

I'm sure a dealer would paint them for your. but you'll pay extra. All they are going to do is charge you for them to outsource it. Might as well go directly to the body shop. I don't have any links to black handles on our paint color... but here is body color matched handles.... http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...ml#post1074761 looks amazing to me. |

The emblems I'm not sure about, I kinda like how the silver makes them "pop" but at the same time black could look really good. I'm definitely going to plasti them as the time it takes isn't long. The fangs and rear valence took longer since taping them take a while where as with the logos you simply put a square around them and spray it. |

a few photos down you can see a Plastidip Badge on a 40th Color..... |

Not a big fan of the black emblems (at least not on the front). I think its because the headlight housings are so bright, if those were painted too it would tie it all together nicely. Also, I love the chin spoiler on that one 40th, so sexy! I would definitely be interested in adding one of those soon. |

That's xdeslitx. That's the bumper and Bomex front lip and handles he had painted. |

I might leave them on now :) |

How do you do plastidipping is it any different from having it painted with a paint canister? Do you need to take off the whole front bumper with plastidip?

*Note you don't have to get as extreme with covering the car as the guy did in the above thread, the plastidip can be removed if you mess up and can be easily wiped off before it drys. I did a 12" protection barrier surrounding the spray area, the one in the thread is like 24"+ |
What brand of paint did you use? Did you use a clear paint also? thanks for the reply. Im still contemplating whether to use a vinyl rap or have it spray painted.

Painted mine last year and still looking good, use a primer, your choice of black(gloss/matte), prep properly and take your time, the link provided is a good DIY too http://serve.mysmiley.net/animated/anim_33.gif

O&G - your actual paint looks great! Much more contrast than the plastidip seems to offer. Thanks for posting those pics! Link to plastidip: http://www.plastidip.com/ |
Did you have any trouble removing the tape from the edges of the plastidip fangs? Like did it peel away the plastidip too? What kind of tape did you use?
|
I did the Plasti Dip as well. Now you just need to do your headlights :)
