LED mod!

1 Attachment(s)
I got my LED's in today that I ordered from JWMotorsports(very quick shipping i might add) to mod my map lights, trunk light, and tag lights. I'll be posting before/during/after pics either later on tonight or atleast by tmrrw:tup:

Just out of the package

koffeegy 04-02-2012 04:18 PM

If you don't mind me asking, what was the total for all the lights?

Thanks,

Did mine (Map Light, Trunk, and License Plate) over the weekend and its a huge difference. You will like it. I was amazed! Took about 5 mins for the whole thing.

Next weekend will be the Front Parking Lights and Reverse Lights. This may take a bit longer....Blah!

MyZ4U2C 04-02-2012 04:26 PM

going to be the first thing I do after I get my car shipped here

How'd you get the map light covers off without leaving marks on the black plastic housing? Ive changed mine once but i left tiny screwdriver marks:mad:

I bought a set of plastic auto trim removal tools from the local harbor freight.

:iagree: The way to remove is to use a plastic trim tool. They are pretty cheap and lasts a long time. I have used a flathead screwdriver with a cloth in the past but the plastic trim tools are the best.

These are a worthy investment as long as you plan on modding your Z.

4 Piece Nylon Pry Bar Installer Kit

USMCASA 04-02-2012 05:52 PM

might i suggest testing them with a couple of pieces of wire and a 9volt prior to installation. that way you know they work and no shorts. if you plug them in around the plate and they have a short you'll have a fun time finding where the fuse you just blew is... ask me how i know lol

Here are the other pics i said i would post
One of the difference in the taglights

One of just the new taglights

A before pic of the inside of the car(which already had some red lights but were dim compared to the LED's)

And a pic of the new LED's installed(red)

370ZilverZ 04-03-2012 10:08 AM

Nice improvement!!!

bjblackout 04-03-2012 10:20 AM

Getting ready to install mine also. When you use the pry tool so you pry down the the black trim around the lights?? Just wanted to make sure I am prying in right place.

370ZilverZ 04-03-2012 10:27 AM

I start on the inside sides. I've removed mine several times without any problems. There are 4 tabs, 2 on each side. Somewhere I even put up a video on removal. Quite simple really. Either on the JWMotoring thread or perhaps my Journal.

:iagree:Yeah, just pry between the black housing and the light cover(white looking piece)Start anywhere you want to really, but ive found it to be a little easier to start on the inside(nearer to the light switch). Seems to pry off a little easier. Let me know how it goes!

:iagree:def worth the money!

sparky 04-03-2012 09:34 PM

I did all my lights to with JW LEDs. Be very gentle with the map light cover. Those tabs holding them on look fragile. The trick is to work it off slowly and be patient. I ended up putting a dab of plastic adhesive on the sticky pad as they fell off after a few days. Surprising considering how sticky the pad seems but
oh well. The red LED interior lights look great!

I didnt even take the back off my sticky pads. I just let my LEDs sit up there. I probly wont until/unless they start moving around up there but i doubt they will theyre in there pretty tight

Did mine today....love the blue. The pic's not the best but it looks sweet when you hit the unlock on your remote

raymondo510 04-09-2012 01:57 AM

just ordered my red lights for my Black Z should look sick cant wait to insall em. Will post pics once installed

Dark Sarcasm 04-09-2012 01:30 PM

the map light LEDs were way too bright for me. It looked cool as hell but, dam, those things were bright. I swapped in the license plate LEDs in place of the maps. Got another set for the license plate and used the original map LEDs fot the trunk and the trunk in my wifes car.

JWMotoring 04-10-2012 12:45 PM

Glad you all like the leds.

As for the pads yep they can be a bit tricky. We suggest adding a dab of silicone when you install them.
