looking for a grill to protect my radiator from bugs.

does anyone make a grill or something to keep the radiator from debris? i cant get back there to clean it. thought about putting the tacky liscense plate in the front but it still wont block the whole radiator. has anyone considered a solution to this? thanks!

You realize that if you block the radiator with something, you are in effect reducing airflow to it as well? I wouldn't bother. You don't need to clean your radiator that often.

good advice, thanks. but how do i clean it when i need to? i live in south louisiana and the bugs are like a plague this time of year. they can easily stop airflow in less than 100 miles of kamakazi missions.

that dude is just hosing it off? stupid wifi here sucks and i cant watch the whole thing so im not sure. iphone fail. the high pressure nozzle wont take these demon bugs off, and i cant get an arm past the nose of the Z to even touch it with a rag. im afraid this is going to be a big problem for me as the summer rolls on.

the fins are very soft (yet sharp) so be careful if you need to make contact with the radiator.

Pauly 03-26-2012 10:46 AM

good to know. i was afraid of damaging them with the hose. cant even reach them with my hand so no worries there. do you guys just let it get sh*tpiled full of bugs and debris, or is this only a problem if you live in a jungle like me?

kenchan 03-26-2012 11:05 AM

yah, i dont usually mess with cleaning the radiator. i suppose if it's a huge moth or something stuck there i would use my extended needlenose pliers to pull it off.

Pauly 03-26-2012 11:09 AM

ha! imagine an alfres hitchcock movie, like the birds, only with bugs. louisiana summertime daily driving.

He uses bug cleaner, but also mentions to soap and water for the surrounding painted areas(bumper etc) before you apply the bug cleaner to the radiator.

Then just a rinse.

The A/C condenser core sits in front of the radiator. That is actually what your trying to clean the bugs out of. Personally I wouldn't worry about it unless you notice your a/c not working as well. I highly doubt you will see any engine cooling loss from bug carcasses blocking airflow.

Agree...

My only other recommendation for thought would be to buy some mesh and have it placed between the two fangs on the oem buper. Buying mesh and putting it on yourself would be more cost effective than buying a whole bumper and having it painted and installed.

I know how you feel in reference to the bugs. I live in Kentucky and its horrendous with the farms in the summer. Can't drive 15 minutes to Wal Mart with out my bumper and windshield being painted in bugs.

thanks to all you guys.
